Part-time

This role is part-time and in person based in Brunswick, Maine

Poseidon Aerospace is establishing an advanced composite R&D presence in Maine through partnerships with leading research institutions. We're looking for a part-time engineer to coordinate our Maine composites lab, manage university research partnerships, and serve as the technical bridge between our academic collaborators and San Francisco engineering team.

This is an excellent role for someone who wants meaningful engineering work with flexibility, whether you're an early-career engineer building experience, a graduate student, someone with other commitments, or a professional seeking part-time technical work. You'll have real responsibility coordinating research partnerships and managing technical projects while working a flexible weekly schedule. You'll be most successful if you're entrepreneurial, comfortable with ambiguity, enjoy research environments, and want to build something meaningful in Maine while contributing to aerospace innovation.

You'll partner with leading academic institutions, identify high-value research questions, manage exploratory R&D projects, and transfer learnings back to our core manufacturing team. You'll have significant autonomy to pursue innovative composites approaches that could improve our production processes while building Maine's aerospace ecosystem.

  • Summarize technical findings for San Francisco engineering team
  • Maintain documentation of Maine R&D activities and learnings
  • Support remote troubleshooting discussions between university researchers and SF engineers

  • Coordinate intern hiring, onboarding, and project assignments
  • Represent Poseidon at industry meetings and local aerospace events

  • Understanding of composite materials and manufacturing processes (academic or professional experience)
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Comfortable coordinating between multiple stakeholders (universities, internal team, vendors)
  • Self-directed and reliable—can manage responsibilities independently on flexible schedule
  • Based in or willing to relocate to Brunswick/Portland, Maine area

Nice-to-Have

  • Any hands-on composites experience (layup, infusion, testing, tooling)
  • Previous research coordination, lab management, or project coordination experience
