Job Summary
The Quality Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that all tiles produced meet industry standards, customer expectations, and company quality objectives while supervising the daily operations of the Quality team. This role oversees inspections, testing, and quality control processes throughout production while ensuring compliance with company policies and industry standards.
The Quality Supervisor provides leadership, direction, and training to quality inspectors and technicians, monitors production quality performance, and works closely with production, R&D, maintenance, and supply chain teams to improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency. This role also drives continuous improvement initiatives, investigates quality issues, and ensures corrective actions are implemented effectively.
Key Responsibilities
1. Quality Control & Assurance
• Supervise daily quality inspections and testing throughout the manufacturing process.
• Ensure products meet company standards and industry requirements before release.
• Monitor production lines to verify quality compliance and product consistency.
• Identify defects and implement corrective actions to reduce non-conforming products.
• Ensure compliance with ISO, ANSI, ASTM, and other relevant quality standards.
2. Team Supervision & Leadership
• Supervise and support quality inspectors, technicians, and quality personnel.
• Assign daily tasks and ensure proper staffing for inspections and testing.
• Provide coaching, training, and guidance to ensure team members follow quality procedures.
• Monitor team performance and address issues related to quality processes or procedures.
• Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training new quality team members.
• Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement within the department.
3. Process Improvement & Problem-Solving
• Identify process inefficiencies and quality issues within manufacturing operations.
• Collaborate with production teams to improve product quality and reduce process variability.
• Lead root cause investigations using tools such as 5-Why, Fishbone Diagram, or FMEA.
• Implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce defects and improve quality outcomes.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across the production floor.
4. Product Testing & Validation
• Oversee raw material and finished product testing including strength, water absorption, glaze adhesion, and durability tests.
• Ensure laboratory testing procedures are followed correctly and results are documented accurately.
• Maintain and monitor calibration of testing equipment to ensure accurate results.
• Review and validate testing reports and documentation.
5. Supplier & Material Quality Management
• Work with suppliers to ensure incoming materials meet required specifications.
• Oversee incoming material inspections and quality verification processes.
• Address supplier quality concerns and assist with corrective actions when needed.
• Coordinate with supply chain and procurement teams to maintain material quality standards.
6. Customer Complaint Investigation & Resolution
• Investigate customer complaints and product quality concerns.
• Lead root cause analysis to determine the source of quality issues.
• Work with cross-functional teams to implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Monitor quality trends and provide recommendations to reduce recurring issues.
7. Compliance & Documentation
• Ensure all quality documentation, records, and reports are properly maintained.
• Assist with internal and external audits and ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
• Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality guidelines.
• Ensure employees follow quality procedures and company policies.
Skills & Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Materials Science, or a related field) preferred, or equivalent manufacturing experience.
• 3–5 years of experience in quality, manufacturing, or production environments.
• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
• Knowledge of ceramic tile manufacturing processes, materials, and quality standards.
• Experience with quality management systems (ISO 9001, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma).
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication, documentation, and leadership skills.
• Ability to lead teams, manage priorities, and work cross-functionally with multiple departments.
• Hands-on experience with laboratory testing equipment and quality measurement tools.
Work Environment
• Industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, dust, and noise.
• Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting throughout the shift.
• PPE required, including safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
