    TITLE:
    Special Education Ed Tech III - Longfellow Elementary

    POSITION OVERVIEW:
    Portland Public Schools seeks a full-time Ed Tech to support small groups of K-2 students and teachers in push-in and pull-out classrooms at Longfellow Elementary School. Under the direction of the Principal and Special Education Teacher, the Ed Tech assists teachers by supporting student learning and well being. Duties involve working with students individually and in small groups engaging in learning, assessing performance, reinforcing instruction, assisting with classroom management, and performing other related non-instructional work. Ed Techs may also support students who require additional behavioral supports, positive behavior intervention, or de-escalation.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
    • Ability to build relationships, engage in teaching and learning
    • Ability to manage data, analyze, and synthesize data
    • Ability to support testing and assessment procedures
    • Ability to interact with staff, students, parents, in an open, friendly, professional manner.

    EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
    • Approval as an Educational Technician III by the Maine Department of Education; in the alternative, Maine provisional or professional teacher certification
    • Preference will be given to candidates with a college degree that includes nine credit hours related to an education field such as behavior management or classroom strategies, and to candidates who have at least one year of experience working with students in structured situations

    Located in Deering Center on Stevens Avenue, between Deering High School and Lincoln Middle School, Longfellow Elementary School is a PK–5 school serving approximately 250 students.
