Ed Tech

A Special Education Technician (or Ed Tech) provides direct support to students with disabilities, implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) under teacher supervision to foster academic, behavioral, and social growth. They work in classrooms, delivering one-on-one or small-group instruction, managing behaviors, and ensuring safety.

 

Core Responsibilities

 
  • Instructional Support: Reinforce learning, adapt lessons, and provide one-on-one help to students based on teacher-prepared plans.
  • Behavioral Support: Implement behavioral interventions to help students with emotional regulation.
  • IEP Implementation: Carry out 504 accommodations and IEP goals for students, including documentation of progress and data collection.
  • Student Support & Care: Assist with daily routines, mobility, personal care, and transitions between activities.
  • Collaboration: Partner with special educators, therapists, and families to support student growth. 
Qualifications
  • Certification: Many positions require state-specific certification (e.g., Ed Tech III).
  • Education: Some roles require a bachelor's degree or at least two years of college experience.
  • Experience: Experience working with children with special needs or behavioral challenges is often required.
  • Skills: Strong communication, patience, compassion, and adaptability.
  • Background Check: Successful clearance of a criminal history check is required.

  • Setting: Public specialized classrooms).
  • Demands: Requires the physical and mental health to support students, which may include lifting, bending, or walking.
