POSITION POSTING- PORTLAND PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Position: Varsity Boys Wrestling Coach
Location: Portland High School
Portland Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Varsity Boys Wrestling Coach to lead our high school wrestling program. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about developing student-athletes both on and off the mat while fostering a culture of sportsmanship, integrity, and competitive excellence.
Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
- Previous successful wrestling coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, or equivalent competitive level.
- Demonstrated knowledge of wrestling techniques, strategy, skill development, and current MHSAA wrestling rules.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to promoting good sportsmanship, character development, and academic success.
- Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification, or the ability to obtain certification prior to the start of the season.
- Must successfully complete a Michigan school employment fingerprint background check prior to employment.
The following qualifications are preferred but not required:
- Previous head varsity wrestling coaching experience.
- Experience developing youth and middle school wrestling programs.
- Demonstrated success building and sustaining a competitive wrestling program while emphasizing integrity, sportsmanship, and student development.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead all aspects of the Portland High School varsity boys wrestling program.
- Collaborate with the Extra-Curricular Activities Director to support and strengthen the entire Portland Public Schools boys wrestling program.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to coaches throughout the program.
- Develop student-athletes in the areas of wrestling skills, sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and academic responsibility.
- Ensure compliance with all MHSAA, league, district, and school policies and procedures.
- Promote positive relationships with athletes, families, staff, officials, and the community.
