Associate Quality Control Inspector

As Associate Quality Control Inspector, you will be part of PGE’s Facilities Inspection and Treatment to the National Electrical Safety Code (“FITNES”) Program team. This is a complex role and requires a clear understanding of electric utility operations, the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), Public Utility Commission of Oregon (“OPUC”) Safety Standards and Pole Attachment Rules, and strong communication skills. You’ll work closely with contract line personnel and inspectors, peer PGE departments, and interact with customers, the Oregon Joint Use Association, and the OPUC. We are seeking a candidate with extensive field inspection and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) experience.

Key Responsibilities

Field Inspections Perform quality control (QC) inspection of PGE transmission and distribution infrastructure to ensure compliance with Facility Inspection and Treatment to the National Electric Safety Code (FITNES), applying PGE, National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and other applicable standards. Identify, describe and report instances of noncompliance for remedy by other work groups.

Self-schedule QC inspections on three cadences: regular cycle, after wildfire, and after storm.

Construction Audits Inspect and audit new construction for marinas, trailer parks, and large engineering/design projects to ensure the internal electrical infrastructure conforms with NESC and PGE standards. Perform pre-construction audits of electrical infrastructure design to identify issues and recommend changes prior to construction.

Project Execution Accountable for ensuring all steps of the project process are completed, considering timeliness and responsiveness to internal or external customers; effectively prioritizes and balances multiple tasks and projects to meet customer expectations; interprets and coordinates work with other PGE departments to fulfill project requirements; works independently and may mentor other project team members.

Fulfills project requirements consistent with company tariff, design standards, NESC requirements and applicable codes.

Standards Interpretation, Development, Maintenance and Training Interpret and apply National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and PGE standards and apply via inspection to existing infrastructure (standard cycle, post wildfire, post storm, pre- and post- construction)

Develop and maintain inspection standards for standard cycle and special circumstances (post-wildfire, post-storm, pre- and post- construction)

Train line crews and inspection crews on inspection and NESC standards.

Leadership and Consultation Responds to questions from other team members and stakeholders; may provide information or training to newer team members.

Education/Experience/Certifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, computer-assisted design or other related field or equivalent experience.
  • Typically, three or more years in utility operations or a related field.
  • Requires a valid drivers license and a history of safe driving practices.

  • This position requires a valid driver’s license and a history of safe driving practices

  • Unstable surfaces requiring balance, including:
    • Confined spaces
    • Walking distances and surfaces (long distances and over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces)

    • Ladders (over 10 rungs)
