Fire Engine Driver
Portland Fire Engine Co. Tours has been sharing Portland, Maine’s history with visitors aboard a vintage, fully narrated fire engine since 2012. Locally owned and operated, we’re proud to offer one of only a handful of vintage fire engine tours in the country — and we’re looking for a friendly, responsible driver to help keep the experience running smoothly.
Position Summary
The Fire Engine Driver is responsible for safely operating our vintage fire engine along Portland’s narrated sightseeing route, ensuring a smooth, safe, and enjoyable ride for guests. This role works closely with the onboard Tour Guide, who handles the narration, while the driver focuses on safe vehicle operation, route navigation, and guest safety.
Core Responsibilities
- Safely operate the vintage fire engine along the designated Portland sightseeing route
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, including fluid levels, tires, and basic safety checks
- Assist guests with safely boarding and exiting the vehicle
- Maintain awareness of traffic, pedestrians, and road conditions throughout each tour
- Communicate effectively with the onboard Tour Guide to keep tours on schedule
- Keep the vehicle clean and report any mechanical issues to management promptly
- Provide friendly, professional interactions with guests before, during, and after the tour
- Follow all company safety procedures and local traffic laws
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Class B CDL with passenger endorsement preferred, but not required
- Comfortable operating a larger, vintage-style vehicle
- Strong attention to safety and detail
- Friendly, professional demeanor with guests
- Reliable and punctual with strong time-management skills
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Comfortable working weekends and holidays during peak season
