What are the responsibilities and job description for the Business Development Representative position at PORTLAND BOLT & MANUFACTURING CO LLC?
We are seeking an energetic and driven Business Development Representative to join our growing North Augusta, SC team as well as the larger team at the other Portland Bolt sites, this position focuses on generating new business opportunities and nurturing relationships with prospective customers.
As a BDR, you’ll engage in outbound prospecting, making 50 calls per day—and respond to inbound inquiries from new contacts. You’ll qualify leads, gather project details, and seamlessly transition prospects to Sales Representatives who will prepare quotes and close sales.
This role is a blend of office-based work (50%) and outside sales (50%), meeting with customers, visiting job sites, and representing Portland Bolt in the field. While we prefer candidates based near North Augusta, remote work from a home office may be considered for highly qualified applicants.
Key Responsibilities
- Prospect and develop new business opportunities through outbound calls, emails, and networking
- Make 50 calls daily to potential customers in the construction, steel fabrication, and fastener industries
- Respond to inbound inquiries from new prospects and collect project information
- Qualify leads and pass opportunities to Sales Representatives for quoting and order fulfillment
- Represent Portland Bolt in person at customer meetings and site visits
- Collaborate with the sales and estimating teams to ensure smooth project handoffs
- Maintain detailed records of prospecting activity and customer interactions in CRM
Desired Skills and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
- Industry experience in fasteners is highly desired. Steel, construction experience will be considered.
- Proven outside sales and/or prospecting experience, including high-volume calling
- Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal
- Strong customer service and relationship-building skills
- High degree of organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple leads simultaneously
- Persistent, self-motivated, and coachable
- Willingness to travel regionally for customer visits and industry events
