Job Opening: Legislative Assistant/Executive Assistant
Description: We are seeking a proactive professional to join our team as a Legislative Assistant/Executive Assistant to provide research and administrative support to senior partners and a small team of lobbyists. This position offers opportunities to develop legislative and public policy expertise, as well as experience with senior executives in business. The ideal candidate is a dependable team player, detail-oriented and punctual. They must also possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, discretion, and judgment. Candidates should be self-motivated, highly organized, and excel at managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Ability to meet tight deadlines is required. Knowledge of and experience with Congress is preferred.
Main areas of responsibility:
- Cover congressional and regulatory agency hearings. Author memoranda summarizing assigned hearings in a timely manner, paying special attention to relevant client policy issues.
- Monitor news. Monitor news alerts throughout the day and alert staff to breaking news.
- Assist in monitoring, tracking and analyzing key legislative and regulatory developments related to financial services, healthcare, tax, and other relevant issues.
- Research support. Perform various research projects for staff and/or client use. Research projects usually involve summarizing a legislative or public policy issue but can often involve regularly compiling information in situational reports, PowerPoint presentations, and Excel spreadsheets. The assistant is also tasked with “quick response” research, requiring the use of all available resources to quickly find specific, relevant information.
- Administrative support. Perform standard administrative duties, such as answering phones, ordering and maintaining office supplies, and handling news subscription services. Help with quarterly lobbying disclosure and semi-annual contribution reports. Assist with breakfast and lunch events/meetings as well as the planning of the firm’s annual reception. Draft, circulate, and publish social media posts using graphic design tools like Canva and more.
- Scheduling. Assist in scheduling meetings with clients and the firm, maintaining certain calendars for the government affairs team, producing a weekly calendar for all staff, and ensuring staff awareness of upcoming events.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree;
- Strong writing, editing, copywriting, and research skills;
- Proven ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team; and
- Intellectual curiosity and attention to detail.
