Role Overview
The Legislative Assistant is an integral part of our team, providing research, monitoring, and administrative support to ensure seamless operations within the firm. This entry-level position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in federal government relations, policy analysis, and client support. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and eager to develop their understanding of the legislative and regulatory landscape.
What You’ll Do
- Legislative & Policy Monitoring: Track and report on hearings, markups, regulatory developments, and other legislative activities relevant to clients.
- Industry Research & Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on legislative and regulatory issues affecting various industries and client interests.
- Client Communication: Draft and distribute grant and policy alerts, webinar invitations, and summaries of key legislative updates.
- Event & Meeting Support: Attend and summarize conference calls, stakeholder meetings, and association discussions.
- Administrative Support: Assist with internal operations, including scheduling, answering phones, and reception duties.
- Business Development Assistance: Support the team in preparing briefing materials, presentations, and background research for potential and existing clients.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Help maintain relationships with congressional offices, federal agencies, and industry partners by tracking and coordinating outreach efforts.
What You’ll Bring
- Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree required; 0-2 years of experience on Capitol Hill, in a government affairs firm, or in a related policy role preferred.
- Legislative Knowledge: Understanding of the federal legislative and regulatory process, as well as key government agencies.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex policy issues into clear, concise messaging.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to analyze legislative and regulatory developments with accuracy and thoroughness.
- Organizational Skills: Strong time management abilities, capable of balancing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Professionalism & Discretion: Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and exercise sound judgment.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); familiarity with legislative tracking tools is a plus.
Salary & Benefits
- Salary: $50,000 per year
- Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, in-person, Monday–Friday
