What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Help - Highway position at Portage County, WI?
The Portage County Highway department is currently hiring Summer Help! These are great positions, especially if you enjoy working outdoors. These positions will work approximately March 15th until October 1, 2026. There is some flexibility with the start and end date of these seasonal positions.
Additionally, these positions work 4 days a week, so you can enjoy a 3 DAY WEEKEND!
Hourly pay without a CDL is: $19.47 / hr
Hourly pay with a CDL is: $20.44 / hr
What are the main job responsibilities?
- Operate industrial tractors for roadside maintenance
- Collect refuse from various roadways and other similar manual tasks
- Perform manual road construction and maintenance tasks.
- Road patching, cut brush, tar cracks, use hand and small power tools
- Perform a variety of manual labor duties
- Operate light and medium level equipment
- Coordinate traffic control (flagging)
- Operate hand and small power tools
What are the minimum qualifications?
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license or commercial driver’s license (Class B CDL) and safe driving record (some of these positions do NOT require a CDL.)
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Prior experience in a similar work environment preferred.
