Job Summary
The mechanic will be responsible for performing preventive maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on the company's fleet of heavy-duty trucks, forklifts (LP and Diesel), yard jockeys, and other material handling equipment. This position plays a key role in minimizing equipment downtime and ensuring safe and reliable fleet operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance on trucks, forklifts, and yard jockeys.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine problems.
- Repair diesel engines, LP forklift systems, hydraulic systems, steering, suspension, and brake systems.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems (12V and 24V).
- Replace and repair components such as alternators, starters, water pumps, belts, hoses, brakes, radiators, and hydraulic components.
- Perform inspections and identify potential failures before they become major repairs.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records using Fleetio.
- Communicate parts requirements to the Maintenance Manager.
- Keep work areas clean and follow OSHA safety standards.
- Assist with emergency repairs when required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a diesel mechanic and/or forklift technician.
- Experience working on heavy-duty trucks.
- Experience repairing LP and diesel forklifts.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems.
- Experience diagnosing electrical systems.
- Ability to read service manuals and repair procedures.
- Valid driver's license.
- CDL is a plus but not required.
- Spanish speaking required.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Toyota, Caterpillar, Hyster, Nissan, Ottawa, Kalmar, Freightliner, Cummins, and Detroit Diesel equipment.
- Experience using diagnostic software.
- Welding and fabrication experience.
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong organizational skills.
Work Environment / Physical Demands
- Work performed indoors and outdoors.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
- Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing.
- Exposure to grease, oil, diesel fuel, hydraulic fluids, dust, and varying weather conditions.
- Occasional overtime and emergency repairs as operational needs require.
