Outreach Intervention Coordinator

The Outreach Intervention Coordinator is responsible for monitoring student attendance, identifying barriers to school success, and working directly with students, families, and school district staff to remove those barriers. The position approaches this work through indigenous, strengths-based practices centered in Port Gamble S'Klallam values, community, relationship, respect, and holistic wellbeing, connecting students and families to tribal and community resources and culturally grounded support. This position works in close partnership with Academic Coaches and Education Teachers to support student success, and also plans and leads family engagement activities that strengthen the relationship between families, the Tribe, and the school district. The role is approximately 80% intervention (attendance monitoring, barrier identification, and family outreach) and 20% event/activity coordination (family engagement events). This position is eligible for situational remote work as needed. The schedule must be discussed with and approved by the supervisor and director and may be subject to change depending on role and department need.

Responsibilities:

• Monitor daily and cumulative student attendance data in partnership with the school district and the Tribal database, flagging patterns of absence or chronic absenteeism early.
• Identify the root-cause barriers to regular attendance and school engagement (transportation, housing, health and behavioral health, food security, cultural disconnection, and other family or systemic barriers).
• Conduct proactive, relationship-based outreach with students and families, including home visits, phone calls, and in-person check-ins, grounded in S'Klallam values and cultural protocol.
• Serve as the primary liaison between families, students, and school district staff, including teachers, counselors, attendance/truancy staff, and administrators.
• Work in close partnership with Academic Coaches and Education Teachers to align attendance interventions with academic support and ensure a coordinated, wraparound approach for students.
• Develop individualized, family-driven intervention and support plans that connect students and families to tribal programs and community resources.
• Coordinate with the school district on attendance policies, truancy processes (including Becca Bill/WA truancy requirements), and student support meetings such as attendance review boards, IEPs, and 504 plans.
• Incorporate traditional teachings, cultural practices, and elders/knowledge keepers into outreach and family engagement work where appropriate.
• Plan, coordinate, and lead family engagement activities and events that build trust and connection between families, the Tribe, and the school district.
• Maintain accurate, confidential case notes and attendance/intervention records in the Tribal database.
• Prepare reports on attendance trends, barriers identified, interventions provided, and outcomes for the Career and Education Department Director.
• Advocate for students and families in school-based meetings, bringing a culturally responsive, family-centered voice to the process.
• Exceptional communication skills, able to build trust and rapport with students, families, elders, and school district staff from diverse backgrounds.

Duties Include:

• Identifies priorities: Understands the complex and varied needs of students and families, identifies barriers to attendance and engagement, and proposes culturally grounded strategies to address them.
• Case Management: Functions as the primary point of contact for students and families experiencing attendance or engagement challenges, from initial identification through resolution and follow-up.
• Family Engagement: Plans and facilitates family engagement activities and events that strengthen relationships between families, the Tribe, and the school district.
• Cultural Integration: Weaves Port Gamble S'Klallam values, traditions, and community knowledge into outreach, intervention, and family engagement work.
• Organization and Record Keeping: Develops and maintains a network of community and tribal resources; tracks attendance interventions and outcomes in the Tribal Database.
• Meetings: Collaborates with other Tribal departments, the school district, and community partners; attends attendance review boards, IEP/504 meetings, and community functions as needed.
• Analysis and Reporting: Creates summary reports on attendance trends, barriers, and intervention outcomes to inform Career and Education Department goals and future strategy.
• After-Hours Availability: Responsible for being available or working outside of normal work hours as needed, including for home visits or family engagement events.
• Reporting is mandatory for tribal employees and contractors with the tribe who perform services to the community in the areas of education, health and human services, law enforcement and members of the clergy.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Associate's degree required. High School Diploma/ GED and willing to obtain AA within 2 years required.
• Knowledge of, and demonstrated respect for, Port Gamble S'Klallam culture, values, and community.
• Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with students, families, elders, and school district staff.
• Working knowledge of school attendance/truancy laws and processes, FERPA, and mandatory reporting requirements.
• Substantial knowledge and experience with computers and MS Office proficiency.
• Must possess initiative, enthusiasm, strong time management and organizational skills, including the ability to work independently, assess priorities, and manage a variety of activities with attention to detail.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding student and family information.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required for home visits and school-based meetings.

Preferred:

• Bachelor's degree in social work, education, human services, or a related field.
• 2 years' experience working with youth, families, education, or social services.
• Experience working with tribal or Native community programs.
• Experience working with a tribal or government program.

Physical Requirements:

Travel Requirements:

• Local travel required for home visits and school site visits; statewide and out-of-state travel may occasionally be required.
