Behavioral Health Crisis Prevention Specialist

The BH Crisis Prevention Specialist manages and oversees the development and implementation of the Community Health Center’s approach to Suicide and BH crisis prevention. This position is responsible for knowing and staying current on crisis-related data and research, crisis prevention strategies and recommendations, innovative strategies in the field, and new education and awareness campaigns at the local, state, and national levels. The BH Crisis Prevention Specialist operates under the direct supervision of the Community Health Coordinator and the direction of the Health Services Director. 

Duties Include:
Project Development and Management: 
•    Oversees the development, implementation, and management of the 988 project and works collaboratively to address any areas identified for improvement and growth.
•    Providing strategic planning and program evaluation technical assistance to coalition members and partners
•    Develop culturally adapted suicide prevention materials 
•    Ensure all program components align with current evidence-based practices and the PGST culture. 
Referral to Services: 
•    Assist clinicians, individuals, and families to identify and apply for services to meet their needs.
Prevention Services: 
•    Providing suicide prevention vision and guidance to key stakeholders (e.g., education; substance use prevention, treatment and recovery providers; child welfare; justice) as they address suicide deaths and suicidal behaviors 
•    Plan and provide prevention services in the PGST community. 
•    Developing and implementing upstream approaches to mental health promotion and suicide prevention programs for the Community Health Center and PGST community utilizing a community health approach
Training: 
•    Attend and complete required training courses to perform the job. 
•    Provide training to local partners, the PGST community, and PGST staff. 
•    Attend any other meetings or training required by the Tribe. 
•    Develop and conduct training of clinicians in suicide risk assessment and intervention
 Reporting: 
•    Track data needed for the program by inputting correct and up-to-date data into the appropriate database. 
•    As the funding agency requires, prepare and submit mandatory progress, statistical, and narrative reports for all program components. 
•    Ensure all assigned grant reports have been submitted on time. 
Meetings: 
•    Working with community-level prevention organizers to promote collaboration and best practices in suicide prevention
•    Represent the program at high-level meetings within the community and with local, State and Federal partners.
•    Attends and participates in community meetings and staff committees whose goals are directly or indirectly related to the program objectives.  
Personal Contacts:  
•    Maintain regular contacts of a positive nature with patients, staff, community members, and others to accomplish tribal objectives and preserve good public relations. 
•    Create multiple partnerships within the PGST community and local resource networks. 
•    Develop and support strong positive relationships with Local, State, and Federal partners. 
Remote Work: 
•    This position is eligible for situational remote work as needed. The schedule must be discussed with and approved by supervisor and director and may be subject to change depending on role and department need.
Other Duties as Assigned.

Education and Certifications:
•    A bachelor's degree in human services or a related field is required.  
•    Required to obtain Certified Prevention Specialist certification within one year of employment and complete requirements to maintain certification annually.
•    Drivers License – Required
•    First Aid and CPR certification required. 
•    Naloxone Training to be completed within the first 3 months of hire.

Experience:
•    Minimum of 1-year experience in crisis prevention. 
•    Experience in motivating and assisting youth and families is required. 
•    Working content knowledge of suicide prevention research.
•    Demonstrated proficiency in grants management, public speaking, group facilitation, training, prevention program development, prevention evaluation, strategic planning and implementation, and data compilation.
•    Basic knowledge of governmental entities and the legislative process, and the ability to coordinate and summarize information as it affects Tribal government, preferred. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with federal, state, regional, and local agencies, leaders, and the general public.
•    Personal computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, are required. E-mail and Internet skills are also required. 

Physical Requirements:
•    Regularly required to finger, handle, reach with hands and arms
•    Frequently required to walk, sit, stand.
•    Occasionally required to lift and move up to 25 pounds.
•    Normal audio and visual acuity

Travel Requirements:
•    Local, Statewide, and out-of-state travel may be required.
