An exciting career awaits you at Pomerene, we are looking for a fulltime RN to staff the Holmes County jail. This position is up to 32 hours per week, with a flexible schedule.
Job Summary
The on-site Jail Nurse works in a patient care unit and functions under the supervision of the Provider. The on-site Jail Nurse coordinates total medical care for inmates, participates in inmate teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with the Corrections Department and other team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practices in the jail setting.
Essential Functions
- Maintains the standards of nursing care and implements the policies and procedures of the Holmes County Sheriff's Office - Medical Unit. Including completion of onboarding and orientation at the Holmes County Jail.
- Uses the Nursing Process to determine clients' condition and medical needs; set goals; designate appropriate nursing actions to meet these goals and the physical psychological, social and rehabilitative needs of the inmate.
- Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding inmates to the appropriate person (i.e. physicians, corrections officer, counselors, psychiatrist) and records these observations accurately and concisely in the Nursing Notes.
- Administer medications and performs treatments to inmates.
- Participates in economical utilization of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
- Participates in orientation of new personnel.
- Coordinates nursing care of inmates when scheduled for therapy or procedures.
- Establishes and maintains communication and utilizes teaching opportunities with clients and other significant individuals.
- Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse development in clients.
- Participates in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment.
- Works with and is familiar with the operation of equipment used in the medical department.
Education
Associate's degree in nursing-required
Bachelor's degree in nursing- preferred
Experience
1-3 years Healthcare/Medical Nurse- Preferred
1-3 years Corrections experience- Preferred
Certification & Licensures
State of Ohio RN Licensure - required
BLS -required
Correctional Officer Certification or equivalent-preferred
