What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chemical Operator position at Polytec, Inc?
Scope of the Position
This job is diverse in the mechanical ability to perform general plant operator duties. The Chemical Operator I is an integral part of our production team and will be responsible for the overall chemical production process. This will include weighing, mixing chemical ingredients, monitoring equipment and the manufacturing process. The ideal candidate will be attentive, knowledgeable, and have a desire to work with other production team members to develop the best processes and products.
Key Responsibilities
· Perform chemical manufacturing operations in safe and effective manner.
· Recording information, such as ingredients, weights, and temperature, and inputting into database/spreadsheet.
· Monitor and control operational parameters of chemical process equipment.
· Operate plant equipment as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
· Handle, transport and process chemicals safely.
· Document plant processes and record production data.
· Operation of tanker truck and railcar vessel opening, loading and unloading of product, operation of pumps, piping and valves.
· Troubleshooting issues with production equipment and processes.
· Plant inventory record keeping.
· Operation of the following mobile equipment: Forklifts and other mobile equipment.
· Daily plant upkeep and daily maintenance. Ability to perform daily housekeeping duties.
Working Environment
· Chemical manufacturing plant producing various alkaline mineral slurries. Limited interaction with other Hazmat and non-Hazmat products as needed.
· Physical capability of performing tasks in 100 degree ambient temperatures while wearing Protective Personal Protection.
· This job requires climbing stairs and ladders and also lifting (within OSHA guidelines).
· This job consists of outside elements where radiant heat or cold is normal work environment.
· Following all plant safety guidelines such as: Confined Space, Working with Heights, Management of Change, Hot Work and Operating Procedures.
· Must be able to work scheduled 10-hour days with intermittent longer days for emergency operations/repairs. Limited weekend work required.
What You Need To Be Successful
· High school diploma or GED equivalent.
· 1-3 years of experience working in chemical manufacturing or manufacturing/production.
· Experience working with forklifts preferred.
· Ability to demonstrate experience using Microsoft programs, maintenance management systems and email.
· Aptitude for mechanics.
· Willingness to comply with safety and quality regulations, including wearing protective gear when necessary.
· Ability to lift 50lbs or more.
· Willingness and ability to record data accurately and legibly in written and digital formats.
· Ability to conduct basic logic and math operations.
