The Polk County Attorney’s Office located in Crookston, Minnesota, is seeking applications for the position of a full-time Assistant County Attorney to represent the State of Minnesota and Polk County in criminal and civil proceedings.
This is a challenging and rewarding position with primary responsibilities including prosecuting felony, gross misdemeanor, and misdemeanor cases, handling child delinquency and CHIPS proceedings, representing the county in other court and administrative proceedings, and providing legal advice to county departments. The emphasis of this position will be criminal prosecution, with the successful candidate’s duties mainly encompassing representation of the State of Minnesota in criminal proceedings is district court. The caseload will involve extensive court hearings and appearances, as well as jury and court trials, with an emphasis placed on courtroom skills, legal research, and legal writing abilities.
Annual salary range for this position for 2025 is $87,818 to $120,000, depending upon experience and qualifications, with annual step increases. The position also includes a highly competitive benefits package and is eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Applicants must possess a Juris Doctorate and be admitted to practice law in the State of Minnesota in order to successfully perform the essential duties of this position. Legal experience in a County Attorney’s Office or other Prosecutor’s Office preferred but not required.
