Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Position description:

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner provides psychiatric care to patients in an outpatient behavioral health clinic, diagnosing, triaging, and providing prescription medications for a complex patient population with behavioral and mental health diagnoses. Develops treatment plans and provides brief intervention strategies for patients. Collaborates and consults with medical providers, behavioral health consultants, mental health providers, and other care partners to ensure safe, effective, high-quality treatment for patients across the lifespan.

This is a contracted 1099 position for an independent contractor.

Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Provides direct patient care within the scope of psychiatric mental health in an outpatient behavioral health care setting. The provider works independently and interdependently with other medical providers, behavioral health professionals, and visiting specialists.
  • Examines, diagnoses, and treats acute and chronic mental health conditions.
  • Use current evidence-based guidelines in creating diagnostic and treatment plans
  • Assesses, plans, develops, implements, evaluates and delivers effective treatment that will appropriately meet the needs of the patient population utilizing best care practices, industry standards, organizational guidelines, appropriate accreditation standards, and applicable federal laws, including HIPAA.
  • Provides consultation to other clinic providers either in person or by telephone.
  • Consults with physicians, specialists, or other health care professionals as appropriate.
  • Assesses patient needs for specialty referrals, diagnostic and in-patient care and makes appropriate referrals.
  • Provides patients and family members with counseling and education regarding health maintenance, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and need for follow up as appropriate during each patient visit.
  • Verifies and documents that the patient understands diagnosis, treatment and follow-up recommendations as required by uniform data system and patient centered standards.
  • Dispenses medications in accordance with State of Oregon Pharmacy Board policies.
  • Assists with meeting clinic patient care team productivity and quality care standards.
  • Participates in development and utilization of practice guidelines and procedures.
  • Participates in audits, and meets standards of Quality Improvement, Risk Management and Utilization Management programs.
  • Completes accurate and timely documentation in patient records and encounters within 24-48 hours after the patient visit.
  • Maintenance of credentials is essential for practice, to include licensure, certification, and CME.
  • Maintains good attendance, is punctual and consistent in meeting patient needs.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and follow confidentiality policies to protect organizational information.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in the State of Oregon
  • Prescriptive Authority in the State of Oregon
  • Current board-certified/board eligible Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) (ANCC or equivalent)
  • Current DEA license in the State of Oregon or ability to obtain prior to start date
  • Authorization to practice as an advanced practice clinician in an outpatient mental health setting in Oregon
  • Holds active Comprehensive/Professional Liability Insurance or ability to obtain prior to start date in an amount not less than one million dollars ($1,000,000) per occurrence and three million dollars ($3,000,000) in the aggregate
  • Holds active Business License in the State of Oregon
  • Willingness to undergo license verification with the appropriate State of Oregon licensing boards
  • Willingness to undergo criminal background check

License/Certification:

  • Certified Nurse Practitioner (Preferred)
  • RN (Preferred)

Pay: $80.00 - $100.00 per hour
