Job Title: PMHNP

Job Summary: The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) will provide comprehensive mental health care, including assessment, diagnosis, medication management, therapy, and crisis intervention, to individuals and groups across a diverse population and across the lifespan. The PMHNP will collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to develop and implement treatment plans that enhance clients' quality of life and promote personal growth and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

Assessment and Diagnosis

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations to diagnose mental health conditions.
  • Review clients' medical, psychiatric, and social histories, as well as environmental factors, to inform diagnosis and treatment planning.

Treatment Planning and Implementation

  • Develop, implement, and manage personalized treatment plans, including pharmacological interventions and therapeutic modalities, tailored to individual client needs.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and other therapeutic approaches as appropriate.

Medication Management

  • Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications, monitoring clients for effectiveness and side effects.
  • Educate clients on medication usage, benefits, and potential risks, and adjust treatment as needed.

Counseling and Psychotherapy

  • Provide individual, family, and/or group therapy sessions to address mental health concerns.
  • Support clients in understanding and managing stress, trauma, and mental health conditions through therapeutic interventions.

Crisis Intervention

  • Respond promptly to mental health crises with appropriate interventions to stabilize acute conditions.
  • Provide guidance and resources to clients experiencing immediate distress or life-threatening situations.

Coordination of Care

  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including physicians, psychologists, social workers, and case managers, to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Refer clients to specialists or additional services as needed for further evaluation or treatment.

Documentation and Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and confidential client records, documenting all assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, ethical standards, and regulatory guidelines in psychiatric practice.

Professional Development and Education

  • Stay current with the latest advancements and research in psychiatric nursing and mental health care.
  • Participate in continuing education, workshops, and training to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing with a specialization in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMHNP).
  • Active state licensure as a PMHNP.
  • Experience in psychiatric assessments, diagnosis, medication management, therapy, and crisis intervention.
  • Strong understanding of legal and ethical standards in mental health practice.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

Work Environment:

  • The role will involve direct client contact in a clinical setting and collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
