We are a fast-growing building materials company specializing in decorative laminates, seeking a Full-Charge Accountant to take ownership of our day-to-day accounting operations and ensure financial accuracy, compliance, and clarity across the business. This is a hands-on role with full responsibility for bookkeeping, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and tax compliance. The position is based in Houston, TX, and requires on-site work at our Houston office. Key Responsibilities
The accountant will report directly to the Business Owner and be responsible for managing the full accounting cycle, financial reporting, and process improvements. Primary duties include:
- Bookkeeping & General Ledger: Maintain accurate books, prepare journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations, and manage month-end close activities.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable: Review, and process vendor and customer invoices; manage A/P and A/R aging; oversee collections and payment runs.
- Cash Management: Record receipts and disbursements, perform bank reconciliations, and prepare weekly cash position reports.
- Payroll Administration: Process and approve biweekly payroll through CoAdvantage; verify accuracy of 941 filings and state tax submissions; maintain organized payroll records.
- Tax Compliance: Ensure timely and accurate filing of sales tax, payroll tax, and other state and local business tax requirements. Coordinate with external CPA for year-end reporting.
- Odoo System Reconciliation: Maintain and reconcile accounting data within the Odoo ERP system, including clearing accounts and integration accuracy.
- Expense Reporting: Review and approve employee expense reports to ensure adherence to company policy.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and review P&L statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports; assist the Business Owner with variance analysis and decision support.
- Audit & Documentation: Maintain proper records to support audits and ensure compliance with accounting and tax regulations.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows and implement process automation for scalability.
- Other Duties: Perform additional accounting and administrative tasks as assigned.
