Founded in 2017, the Policing Alternatives and Diversion (PAD) Initiative exists to reduce arrests and incarceration of people experiencing extreme poverty, problematic substance use, or mental health concerns, and increase the accessibility of supportive services in Atlanta and Fulton County. PAD seeks to hire its first Development Director who can effectively work across teams of dedicated professionals to sustain and advance the organization, not just to grow and maintain revenue, but also to increase exposure, programming expansion, and equitable, community-centered, long-term strategic growth to address community safety concerns compassionately and non-punitively. The ideal candidate will be passionate about building community-based alternatives to policing and jails, possess strong communication and relationship-building skills, and be committed to fostering a collaborative approach to fundraising that aims to build sustainable relationships and partnerships for long-term support. This position is in-person, located at our office in the Mechanicville neighborhood.
Fundraising Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and execution of a multi-year sustainability and resource strategy that centers PAD’s mission and values, and the community’s needs;
- Identify and pursue diverse fundraising opportunities, including individual giving, corporate support, foundation grants, and government contracts;
- Manage donor relationships to ensure regular communication and effective stewardship;
- Identify and manage a CRM system to accurately record donors, prospects, and fundraising activities to ensure transparency and accountability;
- Track fundraising progress and report on outcomes, with a focus on impact;
- Partner with PAD’s executive director and its board of directors to help establish and foster a culture of philanthropy and activation of their personal and professional networks to deepen their role in resource development;
- Supervise contracted grant writing staff and manage a collaborative, cross-departmental approach to the grant writing and reporting process to ensure timely submission of proposals and reports;
- Strengthen and maintain tracking and reporting of grant outcomes that comply with funder requirements and contracts;
- Effectively communicate the lived experiences of the individuals PAD serves without exploitation in funder meetings, donor correspondence, and grant writing to secure mission-aligned support.
Collaboration and Partnership Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with PAD’s community engagement team to develop and implement strategies that increase community awareness, convey impact, and support;
- Facilitate internal learning and reflection around development practices that are ethical, sustainable, and community-centered;
- Participate in funder convenings, site visits and public meetings and events;
- Collaborate with partner organizations to share resources, knowledge, and support, thereby strengthening PAD’s impact on the broader community.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5 years of proven experience in fundraising or non-profit management;
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills;
- Excellent organizational and project management skills;
- Proficiency in data management and reporting;
- Understanding of movement-building work and criminal justice reform;
- Familiarity with Atlanta’s philanthropic landscape is a plus, but not required;
