Part-Time Safety Consultant

Overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Safety Professional to support safety operations on an active construction project. This individual will maintain a strong field presence, working closely with project management, subcontractors, and craft personnel to identify hazards, reinforce project safety expectations, and promote safe work practices.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine field safety walks throughout active construction areas and maintain a continuous field presence during structural steel erection activities.
• Identify unsafe conditions, unsafe work practices, and developing exposures, and communicate findings to appropriate project and subcontractor supervision.
• Document meaningful positive and corrective safety observations using the project's safety management and reporting system on a daily basis.
• Follow up on observations to verify that corrective actions have been completed.
• Review subcontractor Daily Pre-Task Plans (PTPs) for completeness, quality, and consistency with the work being performed.
• Engage workers and supervisors in the field to verify their understanding of daily work activities, hazards, and controls identified within their PTPs.
• Assist with incident and near-miss investigations and complete or contribute to required incident reports and documentation.
• Immediately communicate serious hazards, incidents, near misses, or conditions requiring immediate corrective action to appropriate project supervision.
• Participate in project safety meetings, subcontractor meetings, pre-planning discussions, coordination meetings, and other meetings as requested.
• Attend meetings with owner or project representatives as requested.
• Assist with safety planning for upcoming high-risk or non-routine activities.
• Maintain professional and accurate daily safety documentation.
• Support the project team in consistently reinforcing project safety expectations across all subcontractors.

Qualifications

The individual proposed for this assignment must, at a minimum:

• Have 3–5 years of construction safety and health experience.
• Have demonstrated construction safety experience on commercial, institutional, or comparable technically complex construction projects.
• Possess a current OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety and Health certification at a minimum.
• Have strong working knowledge of applicable OSHA construction standards.
• Have demonstrated experience with fall protection, material handling, ladders, scaffolding, and confined-space operations.
• Have demonstrated experience providing safety oversight during structural steel erection, including fall protection, hoisting/rigging, decking, and coordination of erection activities.
• Be capable of reviewing Daily PTPs/JHAs and identifying deficiencies between documented controls and actual field conditions.
• Be comfortable using electronic safety management systems, tablets, and mobile applications for field documentation.
• Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Be capable of communicating effectively and professionally with craft workers, foremen, subcontractor management, project personnel, and owner representatives.
• Be capable of independently managing daily field safety responsibilities while working collaboratively with the existing project team.

Additional safety credentials such as CHST, STSC, ASP, CSP, or equivalent professional certifications are preferred but not required.

Pay: $35.00 - $55.00 per hour

Expected hours: 16.0 – 24.0 per week
