About the Job
As a Design Consultant at Pompanoosuc Mills (Pompy), you will work closely with clients to understand their design needs and help bring their vision to life. You will guide customers through the design process, offering solutions from our standard furniture line as well as customized options.
Your responsibilities will include assisting with furniture selection, space planning, color coordination, and accessory choices for both home and office environments. Because a significant portion of our furniture is customized, you will also be responsible for developing custom designs and clearly communicating specifications to our Vermont-based artisans.
In addition, you will support daily showroom operations and help maintain an inviting, well-presented retail environment.
This is a non-commissioned position, with compensation based on experience and skill level. The role requires weekend availability, and some schedule flexibility is needed to support team coverage.
Key Responsibilities
- Consult with clients to understand their design goals and preferences
- Recommend furniture, layouts, and design solutions
- Develop and document custom furniture designs
- Coordinate design details with production teams
- Maintain showroom appearance and organization
- Provide excellent customer service throughout the sales process
About You
- Passion for design with a strong attention to detail
- Excellent listening and communication skills
- Enjoy problem-solving and working collaboratively
- Experience in high-end retail or customer-focused environments preferred
- Ability to quickly learn product lines and customization options
Qualifications & Skills
- Basic computer skills (email, web browsing, document handling)
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Interest or experience in interior design, space planning, or custom furniture （preferred）
- Experience with technical drawing or design tools is a plus
