Custodial Worker

DUTIES:

Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES anticipates a full-time opening for a Custodial Worker. Candidate will be responsible for daily cleaning and safety conditions of BOCES facilities, and to supervise, instruct and assign tasks to cleaning staff. This person is responsible to clean, perform grounds keeping activities, and perform routine maintenance activities including painting, and minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical repairs. Arranges special set up of events, as programs require. Responsible for the opening/closure and security of the building(s). Uses basic computer applications as related to duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written directions; and to read, write, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential functions of the position. Physical ability to perform all job-related duties.

• Working knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment;

• Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of building systems;

• Ability to perform a variety of routine maintenance tasks;

• Must be thorough and dependable;

• Bilingual preferred but not required;

• Must hold a valid driver's license for the duration of employment;

Must obtain clearance for employment from NYS Education Department based on fingerprinting and criminal history background check.
