What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Machine Operator position at PMD?
Job Description: CNC Machine Operator (3 & 5-Axis Milling)
We are looking for a precision-minded CNC Machine Operator to join our production team. This role is perfect for a skilled operator who enjoys the variety of low-to-medium volume runs and takes pride in "owning" their station. You won’t just be a button-pusher; you will be responsible for your own setups, in-process quality checks, and maintaining the high standards required for tight-tolerance components.
We value an engaged, upbeat personality—someone who brings a positive attitude to the shop floor and looks at technical challenges as opportunities to learn and improve.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Operation: Run high-precision 3 and 5-axis milling centers for low-to-medium production batches.
- Independent Setups: Perform complete machine setups, including loading tools, installing workholding (vises, fixtures, etc.), and setting work/tool offsets.
- Blueprint Proficiency: Read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T symbols to ensure parts meet exact specifications.
- Quality Ownership: Conduct frequent in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, and height gauges to maintain tight tolerances.
- Collaborative Problem Solving: Identify and report programming or tooling issues early; work closely with the programming team to suggest improvements for efficiency and finish.
- Workspace Maintenance: Keep machines and workstations clean, organized, and running at peak performance.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience: Proven experience operating CNC mills in a 3 and 5-axis environment.
- Technical Literacy: Strong ability to read blueprints and understand manufacturing documentation.
- Manual Dexterity: Comfortable handling delicate parts and using precision measuring equipment.
- Attention to Detail: A "right the first time" mentality with a focus on high-quality aesthetics and dimensional accuracy.
- Self-Starter: Ability to manage your workflow independently once a job is set up.
Cultural Fit
- Positive Energy: You enjoy being part of a team and contribute to a productive, upbeat shop atmosphere.
- Inquisitive Mind: You ask "why" and "how" to better understand the process and grow your skills.
- Reliability: You take pride in being dependable and meeting production goals with consistency.
