The Designer position is part of PSU’s Designing Forward Davis Foundation grant, a university initiative supporting faculty and staff in advancing innovative instructional design practices. Designers undertake a self-directed instructional design project, which may involve redesigning part or all of an existing course, developing a new course, or redesigning a set of courses as part of a broader curriculum. This position focuses in particular on projects that explore emergent and flexible approaches to learning design. The Designer works independently on their project while checking in regularly with the CoLab team, and may mentor a Student Collaborator, if one is requested. This is a temporary, grant-funded adjunct staff position.

Duties/Responsibilities

Instructional Design Project Development (60%)

  • Develop a detailed plan for a self-directed instructional design project.
  • Design and implement project work focused on redesigning an existing course, developing a new course, or restructuring a curriculum, with attention to emergent and flexible learning design.
  • Complete the design project between June 2026 and May 2027.

Grant Participation and Reporting (25%)

  • Attend initial planning meetings, as required
  • Check in with the CoLab at agreed-upon deadlines to provide project updates and progress reports.
  • Attend a University Days session in mid-August

Student Collaborator Mentorship (15%)

  • If a Student Collaborator is requested, mentor and support the student's contributions to the design project.
  • Provide direction, feedback, and guidance to help the Student Collaborator develop skills relevant to the project.

Requirements

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of the Participant role (summer Design Forward curriculum) of the Designing Forward grant
  • Current adjunct faculty or staff status at Plymouth State University.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Interest in exploring emergent, flexible, or innovative approaches to learning design.
  • Ability to work independently on a sustained project with periodic check-ins and milestone deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to describe project plans and progress clearly in writing.
  • If mentoring a Student Collaborator: ability to provide constructive guidance and support to a student worker

Compensation Pay Range

$50/hour

Please be advised that this position is supported by external sponsor funding. As such, continued employment in this role is contingent upon the availability of those external funds. If, for any reason, the sponsor funding is reduced or discontinued, employment may be subject to modification or termination in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
