JOB SUMMARY
As a Portfolio Manager III, you provide support to the Commercial Lender by underwriting at an advanced level of complexity for commercial relationships. This position requires an extreme sense of urgency and a faster than average work pace is necessary. You will provide guidance for structuring, servicing, and analyzing both new and renewal credits. You will identify, gather and review financial information to determine borrower risk ratings and appropriate loan structuring/monitoring. You will assess and communicate risks to assist department risk mitigation strategies. You will provide service and support for both associates and clients, participating in client calls/meetings and identifying cross-sell opportunities. You may assist in prospecting efforts. You may assist with special projects as needed to facilitate commercial lending activities and service capabilities and may provide direction to less experienced Portfolio Managers within the Commercial Lending team. In this position, you will work closely with Commercial Lenders and other Portfolio Managers to achieve an outstanding customer experience, while upholding company standards, and adhering to polices and regulations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Supports Commercial Lenders by actively participating and assisting in all aspects of the loan process.
- May attend sales meetings/calls and serve as additional contact for commercial bank clients.
- Identifies additional opportunities to meet client needs and expand relationships with new and existing clients. May assist lenders in their prospecting efforts.
- Utilizes maturing loan reports to determine identify upcoming maturities for timely renewals and addressing balloon payments well in advance.
- Prepare timely, concise and accurate credit recommendations with limited supervision or revisions. This includes new loans, renewals, modifications and change in terms. Additionally, prepares Annual CRE Review and Periodic Financial Review memos required for ongoing portfolio management.
- Analyze business, industry, financial data and other supporting credit information concerning an applicant’s credit request; identifies key business and financial risks that may impact the repayment prospects by the borrower; derives conclusions support the credit recommendation based on documented facts and/or sound judgement.
- Communicate to Lenders any financial constraints, exceptions noted, subject to approval requirements, non-compliance with financial covenants, etc.
- Review/analyze collateral quality, value and applicable advance rates.
- Recommend appropriate risk rating based on financial and collateral analysis performed, consulting w/lender.
- Is actively involved in QA (quality assurance), involving understanding the loan documentation components and reviewing for accuracy.
- Assists the Commercial Lending Team in maintaining and properly documenting loan files.
- Ability to work independently and be a self-starter.
- Work efficiently and respectfully with all departments within the organization.
- Provides coaching, mentoring and training to junior portfolio managers.
- May oversee the work of other portfolio managers, including the timely review credit memos prepared by other portfolio managers to ensure a high level of quality prior to submission for approval.
- Possesses and demonstrates leadership qualities. Takes personal initiative and is a positive example for others.
- Maintain and apply sufficient knowledge of regulatory compliance and complete with passing scores on-line compliance training according to established schedules.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance or related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE: A combination of education and experience equivalent to:
Minimum of five plus years’ of lending or equivalent experience is required. Business lending experience is preferred with emphasis on the lending needs of commercial borrowers. Critical thinking skills are a must. Credit analysis experience for a financial institution with proven proficiency in commercial/industrial, commercial real estate and agricultural financial analysis. Proficient in use of personal computer operations including word processing, spreadsheet and email software programs. Good organization and communication skills.
