What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shrink Sleeve Seamer Operator – First Shift position at PLPS (Label Graphics)?
Premiums Label and Packaging Solutions is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Shrink Sleeve Seamer Operator to join our first-shift production team.
The Seamer Operator is responsible for setting up and operating shrink-sleeve seaming equipment to convert printed film into finished shrink-sleeve material that meets customer specifications. This position plays an important role in maintaining product quality, meeting production schedules, and ensuring materials move efficiently into the next stage of production.
Experience operating converting, printing, packaging, or manufacturing equipment is preferred, but we are willing to train a reliable candidate who demonstrates strong mechanical ability, attention to detail, and a desire to build a long-term career in manufacturing.
Primary Responsibilities
- Set up and operate shrink-sleeve seaming equipment, including Karlville K2/K3 or other machine models.
- Review job tickets, production specifications, samples, and customer requirements before beginning each job.
- Load rolls of printed shrink film onto the machine safely and correctly.
- Set and adjust web tension, forming dimensions, solvent application, lay-flat dimensions, and machine speed.
- Thread material through the machine and confirm proper web alignment.
- Monitor the seaming process throughout the production run.
- Inspect finished material for proper seam strength, seam placement, lay-flat width, appearance, and overall quality.
- Measure finished sleeves using approved measuring tools and inspection procedures.
- Make machine adjustments when material begins moving outside the required specifications.
- Identify defects such as weak seams, wrinkles, telescoping, blocking, inconsistent solvent application, poor roll formation, or incorrect lay-flat dimensions.
- Complete required quality checks and accurately record production information.
- Enter production data into Label Traxx/ERP System as required.
- Properly label finished rolls and prepare them for the next production process.
- Communicate material, printing, quality, or equipment concerns to the appropriate department.
- Reduce waste by catching problems early and making timely corrections.
- Assist with job changeovers, machine cleaning, preventive maintenance, and general housekeeping.
- Follow all company safety, quality, food-packaging, and good manufacturing practice requirements.
- Work cooperatively with printing, quality, finishing, maintenance, shipping, and production leadership.
- Perform other production-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Previous manufacturing, machine-operation, printing, packaging, or converting experience is preferred.
- Shrink-sleeve seaming experience is strongly preferred but not required.
- Mechanical aptitude and comfort making machine adjustments.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to recognize small product defects.
- Ability to read job tickets, measurements, production instructions, and quality specifications.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
- Ability to use measuring devices such as rulers, calipers, micrometers, or lay-flat gauges.
- Basic computer skills and willingness to learn the company’s production software.
- Ability to stand and walk for most of the scheduled shift.
- Ability to bend, reach, twist, push, and pull as required.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Ability to handle rolls of film using approved material-handling equipment.
- Ability to work safely around moving machinery, solvents, inks, adhesives, and other manufacturing materials.
