Position Summary
The Seasonal Stockroom Associate is responsible for receiving, processing, storing, and distributing merchandise while maintaining a safe, organized, and efficient stockroom environment. This role also supports packing and shipping activities for mail orders and assists with inventory control and deliveries to Museum retail locations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide a friendly, professional, and welcoming presence for all guests and coworkers.
- Support the Museum’s mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy.
- Receive, unpack, inspect, and process incoming merchandise shipments.
- Inspect merchandise for damage or defects and report issues as needed.
- Accurately sticker, tag, count, and record inventory.
- Stock merchandise in assigned locations and maintain inventory organization.
- Identify and correct inventory discrepancies.
- Handle all merchandise with care to prevent damage or loss.
- Communicate with buyers or retail shops regarding inventory needs or issues.
- Create proposed purchase orders and access inventory data using computer systems.
- Print tags and retrieve inventory information as needed.
- Pick, pull, and fill orders for all Museum shop locations.
- Pack merchandise carefully for transfer or shipment to avoid damage.
- Assist with picking, packing, and shipping mail orders.
- Use a Museum vehicle to deliver merchandise to shops and transport items to or from vendors or off-site locations, as directed.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly stockroom and work area.
- Break down cardboard boxes and keep aisles clear of debris and obstructions.
- Answer phones and take messages as needed.
- Attend meetings and training sessions as required by the Stockroom Supervisor.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures outlined in the safety handbook and as directed by management.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines while managing multiple responsibilities.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic computer and calculator proficiency.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must possess a current, valid Massachusetts driver’s license.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Valid driver’s license required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
- Ability to stand, sit, kneel, crouch, and move throughout the workday.
- Use of a step stool and/or ladder.
- Operation of a pallet jack.
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- The stockroom and work areas are not always climate-controlled.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, cold, and rain.
- Noise levels may range from quiet to moderately loud depending on activity.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The Museum is open seven days a week from April through the end of November. Employees must be available to work some weekends and holidays, including Thanksgiving Day.
Flexibility in scheduling, including evenings, weekends, or additional hours, may be required based on seasonal operational needs.
