Title: Activity Assistant
Supervisor: Activity Director, Administrator/Executive Director
Purpose:
The primary purpose of the Activity Helper is to assist in serving food to residents . You will be responsible to do 1:1 activities, visits, pass snacks., You will assist the residents and make sure they are content & happy.
Functions and responsibilities:
Listed below is an outline of the functions and responsibilities that you will be required to perform. As an Activity Helper.
you will be responsible to carry out your assigned duties in a calm, professional & organized manner. You will be responsible to work independently.
Plan, develop, organize, and carry out the duties assigned by the Activity Director in a responsible, independent fashion.
Able to discuss clearly & with good english to communicate with residents in a professional, respectful manner.
Assist as needed in the activity department as requested by the activity director.
Participate in regularly scheduled orientation and in-service training programs
Ensure that the residents needs are met.
Perform filling out forms in an organized, clear fashion according to orientation.
d trips whcourage residents to develop their ucational development through reading, computers, etc. Provide information to residents/residents’ families as to the activity programs available
Encourage hobbies and crafts and provide materials in keeping with residents’ financial status and department budget
Obtain information concerning the residents’ background to better provide activities to meet their needs
Provide consultation to staff, community agencies, etc. in effort to solve the needs and problems of the residents through the development of activity/social service programs
Attend and participate in professional activities and programs
Assist in the review and updating of departmental job descriptions at least annually
Record and maintain activity progress notes as well as a record of resident activities
Maintain an excellent working relationship with the medical profession and other health related departments.
Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department
Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information to assure resident rights are protected
Respect each resident and their belongings. Maintain contact with the residents’ family, involving them with non-medical progress reports as necessary
Report all unsafe or hazardous conditions or equipment immediately
Assure that established safety regulations are followed at all times
Provide craft supplies and material and supervise activities
Assure that a current resident activity schedule is maintained for each resident
Be alert for any change in the residents’ condition and report any changes to the Charge Nurse immediately
Encourage residents to participate in religious activities through religious services, reading material, visits with
Chaplin, etc. to fulfill their basic religious needs
Participate and assist in departmental studies and projects as assigned or that may become necessary
Other tasks as deemed necessary and appropriate or as may be directed by the Activity Director, Administrator
Working Conditions:
Sitting, standing, bending, lifting and moving intermittently during working hours
Works in well-lit and well ventilated areas
Subject to frequent interruptions
Involved with residents, family members, personnel, visitors, etc. under all conditions and circumstances
Willing to work beyond normal working hours and in other positions temporarily when necessary
Attend and participate in educational programs
Subject to falls, burns from equipment, infectious diseases, substances, odors, etc. throughout the work day
Be economical and careful with supplies, equipment, etc.
Requirements:
Must possess, at a minimum a high school diploma
Must be able to read, write and speak the English language
Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant
Possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents visitors and the general public
Be a minimum of 18 years old
Willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel
Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning
Must have a sincere desire to work with the aged showing respect at all times.
Must have some understanding of the social, psychological and recreational needs of the aged
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
Must possess sight and hearing or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function
Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies
Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability
Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset and at times, hostile people
May be required to lift equipment and supplies and occasionally move furniture
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
