Shape the First Piece: Day-in-the-Life
At our precision machining facility in Hopkins, you’ll be the go-to expert who turns engineering intent into repeatable production. Your day begins by reviewing setup sheets, process documents, and tooling instructions. You’ll mount and qualify tooling, establish work and tool offsets, run first-article parts, and make the fine adjustments that bring everything into tolerance—often with minimal supervision.
What You’ll Do
- Perform complex CNC set-ups on at least one major machine tool type with limited oversight.
- Operate CNC mills and lathes to consistently hit quality and production goals.
- Execute tool changes, offsets, and machine adjustments to stabilize processes.
- Make minor program edits at the machine; complete major edits under supervision.
- Follow setup sheets, process documents, and tooling instructions precisely.
Build-in Quality
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications.
- Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, indicators, comparators, and CMM equipment.
- Apply process-control techniques to hold tolerance and finish requirements.
- Document inspection results and promptly report any non-conformances.
Keep Production Moving
- Perform routine maintenance, lubrication, and cleaning on assigned machines.
- Troubleshoot machine and tooling issues to minimize downtime.
- Support Lean, 5S, and ISO-focused improvement initiatives.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area at all times.
Collaborate Across the Floor
- Coordinate with supervisors, engineers, and programmers on tooling, processes, and product requirements.
- Work closely with fellow machinists to ensure smooth production flow.
- Follow all safety and housekeeping procedures.
What You Bring
- High school diploma or GED required; 2-year machining degree or technical certificate preferred.
- 0–5 years of CNC machining or manufacturing experience.
- Ability to independently set up CNC machinery on at least one platform.
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with ISO, 5S, or Lean Manufacturing is a plus.
