We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Ocean Import Agent to manage the full lifecycle of ocean import shipments. The ideal candidate will handle everything from initial quoting to final delivery and vendor cost reconciliation, ensuring 100% compliance with U.S. Customs and international regulations.
Responsibilities
- Core Operations: Provide comprehensive ocean import freight forwarding services, managing shipments from "Pre-Alert" to the final destination.
- Logistics Coordination: Quote, route, track, and oversee shipments while interfacing with overseas partners, steamship lines, airlines, and Container Freight Stations (CFS).
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to company standards and international global partner protocols.
- Financial Management: Collect and audit all 3rd party transport vendor costs (ocean freight, drayage, and warehouse) within the TMS/shipping software; manage "Last Free Day" monitoring to proactively minimize demurrage and detention costs.
- Customer Service: Act as the primary point of contact for ocean import queries, providing complete, efficient, and solution-oriented communication with customers.
- Vendor Relations: Assist in obtaining and negotiating competitive overseas quotes from our international network and coordinate all cartage and warehouse needs.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for key customer profiles, including contacts, special requirements (such as Dangerous Goods (DG) handling for Lithium batteries), and preferred routings.
- Team Collaboration: Interface effectively with International and Domestic Operations Teams, Overseas Agents, and Vendors to ensure a seamless supply chain.
Job Qualifications:
Education: 2-year degree or an equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
Experience: 2–5 years of experience in international freight forwarding operations with a proven track record of stability.
Technical Knowledge: Well-versed in Incoterms 2020 and international shipping regulations.
- Deep understanding of ocean documentation (Bills of Lading, Arrival Notices, Commercial Invoices, and Packing Lists).
- Familiarity with the varying processes of U.S. Ports of Entry and Export.
- Knowledge of the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code/Dangerous Goods and project cargo handling is a significant plus.
Software Skills: Excellent computer proficiency (Word/Excel); experience with TMS software (e.g., CargoWise, Magaya, or similar) is preferred.
