Ad Valorem - 2.40 parish property (ad valorem) tax mills are dedicated to employee salaries. The annual receipts from this tax are distributed to employees twice a year, one-half in January and one-half in June. The amount of each employee’s supplement is the employee’s salary multiplied by the annual percentage (computed each year based on actual tax revenues)
Job Goal
To support teachers in creating a positive and effective learning environment by providing instructional assistance, classroom management and individualized student support for students with disabilities.
Qualifications (minimum education, licensure, skills and/or experience)
Required
- High school diploma or GED®, in addition to at least one (1) of the following:
- Successful completion of at least forty-eight (48) semester hours of study at an institution of higher education; or
- Level 3 scores on the WorkKeys® Assessment, including Applied Math, WorkPlace Documents and Business Writing.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to follow directions and support instructional activities under a certified teacher’s supervision.
- Must meet the requirements of a criminal background check, including fingerprinting, as outlined in Louisiana Revised Statute 17:15 and Bulletin 746.
Preferred
- Associate’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Prior experience working with children in an educational or related setting.
- Training in behavior management, special education strategies, or English as a Second Language (ESL).
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) / First Aid certification (or ability to become certified after employment).
- Familiarity with classroom technology (e.g., computers, interactive whiteboards).
- Working knowledge of Google Workspace.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Technical Duties and Operations
- Develops, implements and monitors initiatives to support the goals and objectives of the school and district, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations while addressing operational needs.
- Assists in maintaining a structured and smoothly functioning classroom environment to support effective teaching and learning.
- Reinforces skills and concepts introduced by the teacher by working with students in the classroom, assisting with activities, documenting progress and recording observations.
- Monitors students' progress by completing activities, documenting outcomes and noting comments to support accountability and improvement.
- Provides individualized intervention for students and aids with small group instruction in the classroom to enhance learning outcomes.
- Assists in administering diagnostic and assessment tests to evaluate student learning and inform instructional planning.
- Participates in weekly planning sessions with the classroom teacher to align instructional strategies and goals.
- Prepares and submits weekly plan sheets to administrators to document instructional activities and plans.
Communication and Teamwork
- Builds and maintains positive working relationships by collaborating with supervisors, co-workers, administrators, teachers, parents and other stakeholders to support school and district goals, ensuring seamless service delivery.
- Collaborates with co-workers to complete tasks and assignments, promoting efficiency and effective operations.
Compliance
- Follows school, district, state and federal regulations to ensure compliance.
- Maintains the confidentiality of student and staff information by adhering to district policies, legal requirements and professional standards, ensuring sensitive data is handled with discretion and integrity.
Safety and Security
- Ensures the safety and security of students and staff by adhering to school policies, supervising assigned areas, reporting potential hazards and responding promptly to emergencies in accordance with established protocols.
Professional Development
- Engages in ongoing professional development and training to stay current with best practices, industry standards and job-related knowledge.
Additional Responsibilities
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned to meet the needs of the school and district.
- Contributes to district-wide projects and collaborates with other departments on cross-functional goals.
- Maintains a valid driver’s license and a clear driving record, follows all district policies and state regulations for safe vehicle operation, reports any incidents affecting their ability to drive immediately to their supervisor and ensures proper care, maintenance and responsible use of district vehicles if required to use a district vehicle for assigned duties.
Physical Demands
This role primarily operates in an indoor, climate-controlled environment, with occasional exposure to moderate temperature variations. The usual methods of performing job functions require moderate lifting (up to fifty [50] pounds), carrying, pushing and pulling with frequent engagement in activities such as standing, walking and sitting. Additional physical requirements include ability to sit for prolonged periods; ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements; ability to climb up stairs and/or steps; ability to drive within or outside of the district to various schools, meetings and events; ability to work in varying conditions, such as inclement weather, wet or slippery floors and/or exposure to cleaning chemicals; ability to handle changes in temperature and noise levels; ability to manage high levels of physical and mental energy throughout the workday; emotional and physical resilience to handle stressful situations, emergencies or high-demand environments; adequate strength to assist students with mobility needs, including lifting or carrying medical supplies; and ability to respond quickly to emergencies, providing first aid or support to students as needed.
