Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio is seeking a mission-minded Associate to join us as a full time (37.5 per week) Speakers Bureau and Storytelling Manager. Applicant must reside in the state of Ohio and will require frequent trips to the Ohio Statehouse, located in Columbus, Ohio.

 

Position Summary

The Speakers Bureau and Storytelling Manager leads the development, engagement, and support of patient advocate storytellers, ensuring that the lived experiences of Planned Parenthood patients and supporters shape advocacy, communications, and public policy. This role recruits, trains, and empowers storytellers to share their experiences ethically, safely, and effectively while building a strong and diverse network of storytellers who help advance reproductive freedom across the state. This position supports both Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio in alignment with applicable 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) guidelines. In the spirit of “In This Together,” this role strengthens collective power to ensure equitable access to reproductive health care for all.

Duties and Responsibilities

Storytelling and Volunteer Engagement

  • Recruit patient advocate supporters, volunteers, storytellers, and Action Fund members through tabling, canvassing, and other in-person and online outreach methods.

  • Develop and execute a retention plan to maximize volunteer engagement and impact

  • Provide trauma-informed, ethical support to storytellers before, during, and after engagements, ensuring ongoing consent, agency, and safety.

Program Management

  • Manage the Speakers Bureau program, including recruitment, onboarding, coaching, scheduling, and retention of cohort members.

  • Maintain and expand PPAO and PPGOH’s story bank database, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance with HIPAA and department guidelines.

  • Provide technical assistance and develop toolkits, briefings, and guidance materials as needed.

  • Coordinate speaking opportunities for storytellers at legislative hearings and meetings, media interviews, rallies, community events, and internal/external trainings.

Training, Education, and Leadership Development

  • Regularly facilitate [TA1] trainings including, but not limited to storytelling, public narrative, testimony, and stigma-reduction for storytellers, volunteers, community members, community partners, and staff.

  • Draft, edit, and refine storyteller remarks, testimony, and digital content while preserving storyteller voice and organizational messaging alignment.

Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Collaborate with field team staff to integrate storytelling and storyteller recruitment in programmatic and campaign work.

  • Collaborate with marketing and communications staff to integrate storytelling in PPAO and PPGOH communications, including but not limited to social media, blogs, emails, op-eds, and donor communications.

  • Build and sustain relationships with clinical staff, coalition partners, and community organizations to support recruitment and engagement.

Data Management and Reporting

  • Track and analyze storyteller engagement, leadership development, and program metrics using EveryAction CRM and Microsoft tools.

  • Manage internal and grant-related deliverables, including regular quantitative and qualitative engagement reports and programming documentation.

Qualifications and Skills

Required Qualifications

  • Commitment to reproductive freedom and alignment with the mission, goals, and values of PPGOH and PPAO.

  • Experience in grassroots organizing, advocacy campaigns, or volunteer-based community work.

  • Strong oral, written, and presentation communication skills with the ability to motivate people to action.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work professionally and effectively in an often tense or emotionally charged environment.

  • Ability to communicate respectfully and non-judgmentally with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sensitivity regarding sexuality and reproductive healthcare choices.

  • Self-directed with the ability to work independently and collaboratively, including on a remote team.

  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

  • Ability to travel regularly across Ohio and occasionally throughout and outside the state of Ohio.

 

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

  • Two to three years of experience in grassroots organizing, advocacy, or community-based nonprofit work preferred.

  • Experience supervising or leading volunteers, interns, or fellows.

  • Experience using digital tools— including social media, predictive dialers, and peer-to-peer SMS — and customer relationship manager (CRM) systems such as EveryAction and VAN for organizing, advocacy, and voter engagement.

 

Work Schedule and Availability

This role requires availability during core business hours of 8a.m. through 5p.m. Eastern Time and frequently requires work during evenings and weekends based on operational needs, project timelines, or system implementations.

 

Travel Requirements

This position requires frequent, regular travel within an assigned region and occasional travel outside the region as needed for meetings, trainings, events, and program activities, including some evenings and weekends. A valid driver’s license and the ability to reliably travel to required locations are required.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

The position requires regular and timely attendance at scheduled in-person and virtual meetings, trainings, and organizational activities. When working remotely, associates must maintain reliable internet access, a private and secure workspace, and comply with all confidentiality and data-security requirements. When working onsite or in the community, employees are expected to adhere to organizational safety, security, and conduct standards.

Salary : $60,000 - $68,000
