Part Time Class III Special Police Officer
29 hours per week/$37.00 per hour
The Plainsboro Township Police Department is a progressive, municipal law enforcement agency located in Middlesex County,
New Jersey. The Police Department has an authorized strength of 36 sworn officers serving approximately 23,000
residents within 12 square miles. The Plainsboro Township Police Department is a New Jersey State Association of Chiefs
of Police Accredited Law Enforcement Agency.
The Plainsboro Township Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Part-Time Class III
Special Police Officer.

Qualifications:
1. Must be a retired police officer who has previously served as a duly qualified, fully-trained, full-time officer in
any municipality or county of this state, or as a member of the New Jersey State Police, and must be living in New
Jersey.
2. Must be retired from that agency in good standing (Must have a letter of good standing issued by the agency
from which officer retired, listing the date and type of retirement. A copy will be submitted to the PTC.)
3. Must be less than 65 years of age for appointment.
4. Must pass a psychological exam.
5. Must pass a medical exam and have doctor complete Medical Certification Form (Form PTC 8A).
6. Must pass a Drug Test pursuant to Attorney General’s Law Enforcement Drug Testing Policy.
7. Must have an updated background investigation.
8. Limited Break in Service not to exceed three (3) years from date of retirement to date of appointment.
Disqualifications from appointment: No applicant shall be considered for appointment to the Police Department
who:
- Lacks the established qualifications required for the position for which he/she has applied or been tested.
- Is physically, mentally or emotionally unfit to perform effectively the duties of the position in which he/she
seeks employment.
- Is addicted to the habitual use of drugs or intoxicating liquors.
- Has been convicted of any indictable offense or who has been convicted of any crime or offense involving
moral turpitude.
- Has been dismissed from any governmental service, or.
- Has made false statements of a material fact or practiced or attempted to practice any deception or fraud in
his/her application, in his/her test, or in securing his/her eligibility or appointment.
