Weekend/Evening Nurse Manager / Supervisor – SNF Job Description
A Weekend/Evening Nurse Manager in a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) is responsible for overseeing nursing services during evening and/or weekend shifts, ensuring high-quality resident care, and maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations.
Position Overview
Oversees nursing services during evenings and/or weekends, providing direct and indirect care to residents in accordance with physician orders and care plans. Coordinates with interdisciplinary teams, supervises nursing staff, and ensures continuity of care during off-hours.
Education & Certification
Graduate of an accredited nursing program
Current RN or LPN/LVN licensure in the state of practice
CPR certification required
Skills & Requirements
Strong communication and presentation skills (individual and group)
Patient, friendly, and respectful attitude toward residents and families
Ability to make independent decisions when necessary
Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English
- Physical stamina: able to lift up to 40 lbs, push/pull 40 lbs, and move frequently throughout the shift
Experience
Minimum 3 years nursing experience in long-term care or another healthcare setting
- Geriatrics experience preferred
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate nursing activities during weekend/evening shifts
Develop and maintain a safe, sanitary, and secure environment for residents, staff, and visitors
Monitor resident care plans, assess residents, and document findings
Ensure compliance with infection control, medication administration, and regulatory requirements
Respond to emergencies, including changes in resident condition or deaths
Review incident reports for accuracy and completeness
Participate in resident care committee meetings and quality improvement initiatives
Provide training and orientation to nursing personnel
Working Conditions
Works primarily in the nursing department, with frequent movement, lifting, and standing
May encounter upset residents/families and interruptions
Works regular weekend and holiday shifts, plus other hours as needed
