PRINCIPAL - MIDDLE SCHOOL
JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT/S:
The job of “Principal - Middle School” is done for the purpose/s of maintaining overall school site operations; receiving, distributing and communicating information to enforce District, state and school policy; maintaining safety of school environment; coordinating site activities; communicating information to staff; and addressing situations, problems and/or conflicts that could negatively impact the school.
DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO:
Superintendent
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Processes student disciplinary actions and personnel actions for the purpose of documenting such actions and adhering to district policies and education code.
• Chairs meetings, e.g., curriculum, safety, site advisory, special district committees, etc. for the purpose of coordinating activities and ensuring activities achieve school, district and/or state objectives.
• Prepares a variety of written documents, e.g., correspondence, reports, analyses, etc. for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
• Manages school administrative functions, i.e., facility maintenance, budget, staffing, etc. for the purpose of maintaining safe and efficient school operations within District guidelines.
• Interviews candidates for the purpose of providing staff recommendations to the Superintendent for employment.
• Evaluates personnel for the purpose of assuring standards are achieved and performance is maximized.
• Facilitates communication between personnel, students and/or parents for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems and/or resolving conflicts.
• Presents information on a variety of topics for the purpose of communicating information and gaining feedback on issues.
• Recommends policies, procedures and/or actions, e.g., personnel, equipment, disciplinary issues, etc. for the purpose of providing District personnel with direction and/or data for decision making.
• Represents school within community forums for the purpose of maintaining ongoing community support for educational goals and/or assisting with issues related to school environment.
• Delegates responsibility for various administrative functions to Assistant Principal and other personnel for the purpose of managing workload efficiently.
• Provide information to children and/or their parents about the Medi-Cal system and where and how to access applications.
• Copy and distribute Medi-Cal information to children and their families.
• Clerical support for Medi-Cal eligibility outreach.
• Inform children and/or their parents about medical services available through school or in the local community.
• Refer children to medical services covered by Medi-Cal (Part of SST process)
• Provide health related information to children and/or their parents.
• Identify at risk children and families and refer them to the proper agencies for services.
• Assist families and students with paperwork necessary to complete Medi-Cal and/or Healthy Families applications.
• Perform contract duties for health services including identifying, recruiting, contracting and monitoring contract. Also may include contract monitoring. Contracts may be for Medi-Cal populations only or Medi-Cal and non Medi-Cal populations.
• Develop, implement and monitor health related programs or systems for children and their families.
• Participate on committees whose focus is to expand services, identify needs or increase service utilization for health services to children.
• Develop and maintain health resource directories.
• Assist with Claiming plan process of MAA Program. Monitor ongoing MAA process and MAA contract.
• Ensure staff understanding of MAA Program.
• Prepare financial data and other data required for MAA claiming.
• Distribute and Collect MAA program information to other staff members.
• Attend MAA Time Survey and ongoing MAA program policy/procedures meetings.
• Supervises instructional personnel for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and achieving overall objectives of school’s curriculum.
• Other duties as assigned.

Experience Required:
Prior job related experience with increasing levels of responsibilities in school setting.
Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
Skills to appropriately manage personnel and programs, effective interpersonal and communication techniques.
Knowledge of curriculum, education code, district policies. Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time, provide direction to others and make independent judgments based on common sense; keep and maintain accurate records; meet deadlines; communicate with individuals of varied cultural and educational backgrounds; communicate in oral and written form. Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling/ fingering, talking/hearing conversations and other sounds, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/visual accommodation.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, BONDING AND/OR TESTING REQUIRED:
Appropriate Administrative Services Credential, valid driver’s license and evidence of insurability, TB Test clearance, Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance.
