PLACERVILLE UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT CERTIFICATED JOB DESCRIPTION SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER - RESOURCE SPECIALIST PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provide instruction and service for those pupils whose needs have been identified in an individualized education program developed by the individualized education team and who are assigned to regular classroom teachers for a majority of a school day. DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO: Site Administrator INSTRUCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: (As appropriate for each school and district support capabilities.) • Teach identified pupils the basic learning skills, such as reading, language, writing and spelling, to meet the emotional, physical, and intellectual needs of each pupil. • Work with school guidance team in the admission, placement, and evaluation of pupils referred to the team. • Assist in the educational diagnostic assessment of identified pupils. • Provide individual or small group instruction that parallels regular classroom curriculum. • Coordinate program for pupils, wherever possible, to work in the regular class in addition to special class placement. • Coordinate and participate in parent meetings. • Confer with parents in conferences and with other professional personnel on progress of each pupil. • Provide appropriate physical and psychological environment to establish and reinforce acceptable pupil behavior, attitude, social skills, and self image. • Provide information and/or counseling to regular staff regarding difficulties involved in instructing these pupils in a regular class. • Maintain necessary records and submit reports as required. • Perform all other functions performed by regular classroom teacher. • Maintain competence through professional growth activities - NON-INSTRUCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: See “Non-Instructional Responsibilities” SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Pupils Certificated or classified personnel and other persons, as directed by site administrator. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S): Appropriate Credentials in accordance with: California Administrative Code, Title 5 Division 7 - “Credentials & Institutions Preparing Candidates for Credentials” Demonstrated experience and/or training in assigned position NON-INSTRUCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES DEFINITION: Those actions, in addition to instructional assignments normally required of a position as assigned and/or described in the position description, that are necessary to enable the class, school, or school district to accomplish its objectives. Note: Non-instructional responsibilities will apply as appropriate for each subject area, grade level, class size, school and district support capabilities. It is essential that non-instructional expectations be communicated clearly by the evaluator to the employee in order to achieve desired performance. • Participate in supervision of pupils in out-of-class activities during the assigned working day. • Participate in faculty meetings. • Normally attend Parent-Faculty club meetings. • Perform basic information gathering services on school and/or district level as required. • Participate in a school program of community relations to communicate to parents and other members of the community, e.g., Back to School nights, Open Houses. • Participate in curriculum development processes within the school or on a district level during a mutually determined time allotment and/or on a released time assignment. Note: • While participating in curriculum development processes valid publishing agreements will be negotiated when required. • Provide information to children and/or their parents about the Medi-Cal system and where and how to access applicaions. • Copy and distribute Medi-Cal information to children and their families. • Inform children and/or their parents about medical services available through school or in the local community. • Refer children to medical services covered by Medi-Cal. (Part of SST process) • Provide health related information to children and/or their parents. • Identify at risk children and families and refer them to the proper agencies for services. • Attend Medi-Cal Administrative Activities (MAA) Time Survey and ongoing MAA program policy/procedures meetings.
