Position Summary

The Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction to students with disabilities in accordance with their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). The teacher creates a supportive, inclusive learning environment that promotes academic achievement, independence, social-emotional growth, and positive behavior while collaborating with families, general education teachers, and support staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Provide direct instruction using evidence-based instructional strategies tailored to individual student needs.
  • Assess student progress and maintain accurate educational records.
  • Adapt curriculum, instructional materials, and assessments to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive classroom practices.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Maintain compliance with IDEA, Section 504, state regulations, and district policies.
  • Manage classroom behavior through positive behavior intervention strategies.
  • Administer formal and informal assessments to monitor student growth.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress.
  • Coordinate with related service providers, including speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, school psychologists, and counselors.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records in accordance with FERPA requirements.
  • Participate in professional development and faculty meetings.
QualificationsRequired
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a closely related field.
  • Valid state teaching certification/licensure in Special Education.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, FERPA, and applicable state special education regulations.
  • Strong classroom management and instructional skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred
  • Master's degree in Special Education or a related field.
  • Experience teaching students with mild, moderate, or severe disabilities.
  • Experience with inclusive classroom practices.
  • Training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), positive behavioral interventions, or trauma-informed practices.

Work Environment

Work is performed in classrooms, resource rooms, and other educational settings. The position may require participation in field trips, school activities, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
