Approximate Timeline
The intern will contribute to coverage of training camp, practices and games, participate in team media availabilities, and write features on players, coaches, and hockey operations/front office staff members. The intern will also work with Marketing, Partnership, Ticketing, Youth & Amateur Hockey and the Penguins Foundation on coverage of their initiatives/events. Candidates should have flexible schedules to work afternoons, nights and weekends as needed for the duration of the internship.
Requirements: Intern must be pursuing a degree in journalism, creative writing, communications or a related discipline. This internship is onsite at PPG Paints Arena and UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex, and is open to students entering their junior or senior year in college, with 20-30 hours of flexible availability each week. The internship is paid hourly at the rate of $10 per hour. Students remain eligible for earning course credits for their internship and will be responsible for ensuring that the internship meets the criteria of their program and/or university.

Key Responsibilities And Duties
- Contribute to the development and implementation of new content
- Participate in team media availabilities
- Help out with practice and game coverage, including notebook-type articles and recaps, transcripts, and social media content
- Write features on players, coaches, and hockey operations/front office staff members for Penguins platforms
- Produce stories highlighting community, marketing, partnership, ticketing and youth & amateur hockey initiatives of the Penguins organization
- The intern will interact with executives, management, players, coaches and staff of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The candidates will be expected to act in a professional manner at all times.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends and game nights as assigned.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with emphasis on writing and editing, required. Applicants will be asked to provide writing samples if invited to interview. Previous sportswriting experience and knowledge of the Pittsburgh Penguins are a plus.
