Part-Time Private Music Teacher (Piano / Trumpet & Piano / Strings)
Pittsburgh Music House is seeking passionate, student-centered music educators to join our growing team beginning August 24, 2026.
Open Positions:
We are currently hiring teachers in the following areas:
- Piano
- Trumpet & Piano
- Strings (must be able to teach at least two of the following: Violin, Viola, Cello, and/or Bass)
This position is ideal for educators who enjoy working with students of all ages and abilities while creating engaging, individualized lessons that inspire a lifelong love of music.
Pay: $40 per teaching hour
Additional paid lesson planning and administrative opportunities are available.
All candidates should:
- Be able to incorporate composition and/or songwriting into lessons (training and mentorship provided)
- Adapt instruction to meet the needs of students with diverse learning styles, goals, and abilities
- Employ an engaging teaching style with beginners through advanced musicians
- Be comfortable teaching a variety of musical styles
Schedule Availability:
Candidates should be available for at least one of the following:
- Mondays after 3:00 PM
- Tuesdays after 3:00 PM
- Wednesdays after 3:00 PM
- Saturdays before 12:00 PM
Consistency is important, as teachers build a regular weekly schedule with their students.
About the Role:
At Pittsburgh Music House, we teach students ages 3–99 with a wide variety of interests, goals, and learning styles. Many students explore multiple instruments while also developing skills in singing, songwriting, improvisation, and creative music-making.
We're looking for teachers who can:
- Create playful, developmentally appropriate lessons for young beginners
- Challenge and inspire intermediate and advanced musicians
- Adapt lessons to support multi-instrumental learners
- Encourage creativity through composition, improvisation, and songwriting
- Arrange or modify music based on student interests and ability levels
- Build strong, positive relationships with students and families
- Foster an encouraging, welcoming learning environment where students feel confident taking musical risks
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Music Education or a related field
- Experience teaching private lessons
- Experience working with young children
- Strong knowledge of your primary instrument(s)
- Openness to incorporating play-based and general music approaches into private lessons (training and mentorship provided)
- Warm, collaborative, and flexible teaching style
- Commitment to consistency and long-term student growth
