Pittsburgh Music House is seeking a playful, student-centered music educator to join our team in a part-time private teaching role beginning in May.
This position is ideal for a multi-instrumentalist or a teacher with a piano/voice focus who enjoys working with a wide range of students from young beginners to advancing musicians.
Pay: $40 per teaching hour
Teaching Areas:
We are looking for candidates who can teach piano plus at least one additional area, such as:
- Voice
- Guitar
- Strings (violin, viola, cello, bass)
All candidates should:
- Have piano proficiency
- Be open to incorporating songwriting and/or composition (on-the-job training and mentorship available)
- Be comfortable teaching a variety of musical styles
Schedule Availability:
We are currently hiring for multiple openings. Candidates should have availability in at least one of the following:
- Weekday evenings (beginning mid-late May)
- Saturdays (optional availability)
Consistency is important, as teachers build a regular weekly schedule with their students.
About the Role:
At Pittsburgh Music House, we work with students ages 3–99 who bring a wide variety of goals, interests, and learning styles. Many students explore multiple instruments, as well as singing, songwriting, and creative music-making.
We are looking for a teacher who can:
- Create engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons for young beginners AND coach intermediate to advanced students with strong musical guidance
- Adapt lessons for multi-instrumental and diverse learners
- Support creativity through singing, composing, and songwriting
- Arrange or modify music based on student interests and levels
- Build positive, supportive relationships with students and families
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in music, music education, performance, or related field
- Experience teaching both beginner and advancing students
- Experience working with young children
- Strong foundation in piano and/or vocal pedagogy
- Ability to teach multiple instruments
- Openness to play-based and student-led learning approaches (on-the-job training and mentorship available)
- Warm, flexible, and collaborative teaching style
- Commitment to consistency and long-term student growth
