Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role for a Junior Hydrogeologist based in Denver, CO. The Junior Hydrogeologist will conduct fieldwork, including groundwater sampling and well installations, and assist in water resource management and groundwater evaluation projects. Responsibilities also include collaborating with senior scientists and engineers, analyzing hydrological data, preparing technical reports, and supporting project planning and implementation.
Skills and Responsibilities:
- Overseeing and providing technical guidance related to borehole logging, installation, and maintenance of groundwater wells, hydraulic well testing and surface and groundwater sampling.
- Supporting the development and implementation of groundwater monitoring programs for mines and contaminated sites.
- Oversight and performance of hydrogeologic testing including step and constant rate aquifer testing, injection testing, airlift testing, and packer testing.
- Pumping and monitoring well design and construction.
- Familiarity with common hydrogeologic test analyses (i.e. Theis, Cooper-Jacob, Jacob-Lohman)
- Interpretation and analysis of hydrogeological monitoring and characterization data
- Assessment and mitigation of potential environmental impacts for mining operations
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and 3-D visualization software.
- Advanced data analysis using 3-D numerical flow and contaminant transport models
- Ability to perform data analysis using statistical and analytical methods. Competency with Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint required.
- Report writing and presentation skills
Required Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in geological engineering or geosciences from a recognized university
- Strong technical, communication and problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication and report writing skills
- Willingness to travel domestically, internationally, and to remote locations
- Valid Canadian driver’s license
- Previous relevant geotechnical or hydrogeological consulting and design experience in open pit mines would be considered an asset
- Experience with commercial computer software including Microsoft Excel and Access, ArcGIS/QGIS, and various groundwater analysis and modeling software (e.g., AquiferTest, MODFLOW, FeFlow)
- Willingness to travel domestically, internationally, and to remote locations
