What are the responsibilities and job description for the Junior Project Manager position at Piper Maddox?
*** ENTRY LEVEL | RECENT GRADUATES AND EARLY-CAREER CANDIDATES ENCOURAGED TO APPLY ***
The Opportunity
Our client is one of the fastest-growing power distribution manufacturers in the country — scaling from $60M to $200M in revenue this year, with $300–400M projected next. They are sold out through next year and actively turning down $20M projects because they don't yet have the team to execute. You could be one of the people who changes that.
The Company
Born out of a $250M exit in precision sheet metal manufacturing, this privately held, debt-free startup has grown into a vertically integrated power distribution manufacturer in under two years. Their 115,000 sq ft Marietta facility assembles PDUs, switchgear, RPPs, and transfer switches — with sister facilities handling sheet metal fabrication, in-house transformer manufacturing, and on-site testing. A 250,000 sq ft facility in West Virginia was just acquired to support continued expansion.
The COO who recently joined previously took a major manufacturer from a 16-week lead time to 3–5 days. Every function in the building is being built to match that standard — including this one.
The Role
This is an entry point into project management inside a fast-moving power distribution operation. You'll own the day-to-day tracking and coordination of configure-to-order and quick-ship product orders from receipt through final shipment, working directly alongside the Senior Project Manager and cross-functional teams in supply chain, production, quality, and logistics.
This isn't a support role. You'll have your own portfolio of active orders, your own customer relationships to manage, and your own performance metrics to hit. The company is investing in this hire for the long term — the expectation is that the right person grows into a Senior PM role as the business scales.
What You'll Own
- Order intake and validation — confirming accuracy before a single work order is opened
- Daily tracking of active CTO and quick-ship orders against acknowledged ship dates
- Proactive communication to customers on order status and any changes to delivery timelines
- Cross-functional coordination with Buyer/Planners, production, quality, and shipping to keep orders moving
- Quick-ship program administration — inventory monitoring, call-off processing, SLA tracking
- Data accuracy in the ERP and project management system — your records are the source of truth
What We're Looking For
Must-Have:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations Management, Engineering, or related field — or equivalent experience
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail — ability to manage multiple concurrent orders without losing accuracy
- Clear written and verbal communication skills; comfortable interacting directly with customers and internal teams
- High follow-through — if you say you'll do something, you do it
- Eagerness and willingness to learn
Nice-to-Have:
- 1–3 years of experience in order management, project coordination, inside sales support, or operations in a manufacturing environment
- ERP or project management tool proficiency (MS Project, Smartsheet, Salesforce, or similar)
Why Now
Most early-career project managers spend years in coordinator roles waiting for someone to give them real responsibility. This company doesn't have time for that model. The people joining now will have helped build something significant — and will have the track record to prove it.
If you're organized, accountable, and ready to do real work from day one — let's talk.
