Site Reliability Engineer III

Piper Companies is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE 3) to join a premier technology organization based in Reston, VA. The SRE will focus on traditional Linux system administration and infrastructure reliability for a large-scale private cloud environment. This position will be hybrid in Reston, VA!

Responsibilities of the Site Reliability Engineer include:

• Deploy code and perform monthly patching across 1,000 physical servers
• Troubleshoot complex issues and identify root causes in a high-availability infrastructure
• Maintain and support bare-metal systems remotely (remote hands, no physical interaction)
• Manage DNS and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems (currently RHEL 8, migrating to RHEL 9/10)
• Utilize automation tools such as Ansible; Python scripting is a plus
• Monitor systems using Nagios (training provided if needed)
• Participate in on-call rotation every 8th week (fixed on-call pay provided)
  
  

Qualifications for the Site Reliability Engineer include:

• 5 years of experience in Linux system administration or engineering (senior-level candidates welcome)
• Strong background in Red Hat Linux, DNS, and traditional Linux environments
• Experience with automation tools (Ansible); scripting knowledge (Python) is a plus
• Familiarity with monitoring tools (Nagios preferred)
• Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills
• Ability to work onsite 2 days per week (Tuesdays & Thursdays) in Reston, VA

Compensation for the Site Reliability Engineer includes:

• Salary: $130,000
