JOB SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:
The Tool Room Manager is a “hands on” leadership role responsible for overseeing the operations of the tool room within a CNC manufacturing environment. This role involves managing tool design, fabrication, maintenance, and repair to ensure the availability of high-quality, precise tools and fixtures for both internal and external customers. The manager ensures efficient workflow, maintains safety standards, and leads a team of Tool Room Machinist and Technicians.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Tool Management & Development:
- Oversee the fabrication, repair and maintenance of machine fixtures, pressure testers, gauges, and other precision tooling.
- Collaborate with CNC operators, engineers and outside customers to develop or improve tooling for optimal machine performance and product quality.
Operations & Workflow:
- Plan, organize, and prioritize tool room activities to meet production schedules.
- Ensure timely delivery of tools and fixtures to support manufacturing operations.
- Implement efficient processes for tool fabrication, repair, and modification.
Team Leadership & Development:
- The Tool Room Manager needs to lead by example and develop and maintain a top performing culture. Will be responsible to recruit, train, develop, supervise, and evaluate Tool Room talent and staff.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and quality within the team.
- Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide technical guidance.
Quality & Standards:
- Ensure all tools and fixtures meet quality standards and specifications.
- Conduct inspections and verifications for tooling accuracy and durability.
Safety & Compliance:
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure a safe working environment.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and environmental regulations.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reduction, and productivity enhancement.
- Implement best practices and new technologies in tool design and manufacturing.
Budget & Procurement:
- Manage the tool room budget, including procurement of raw materials, tooling and outside services.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Significant, proven experience (10 or more years) as a Tool Maker in a machining, or manufacturing environment, especially in CNC operations.
- Strong knowledge of tooling design, CNC machining processes in a tool room environment, and CAD/CAM software helpful.
- Strong leadership skills and having the willingness to grow them. Someone who leads by example and can develop and lead a team.
- High energy person with high personal standards and high expectations of their teammates.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory requirements related to manufacturing and tooling.
- Proficiency in MS Office and manufacturing software systems
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
In this position the employee will be working in a combination office/plant environment and may be exposed to airborne particles & moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the environment can be loud so hearing protection is provided and mandatory in certain areas
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

- frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands & arms
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment
SHIFT HOURS:
Monday – Thursday 6:00 AM to 3:30 PM
Friday 6:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Overtime as needed
