Job Summary
The Senior Commissioning Coordinator is responsible for leading the planning, coordination, and execution of all commissioning and start-up activities to ensure equipment and systems are fully prepared for safe and efficient operation. This role oversees commissioning deliverables across the project lifecycle, with a strong emphasis on schedule adherence, budget management, and resolution of system deficiencies.
The position requires close collaboration with internal teams, contractors, and external stakeholders to drive alignment and ensure successful project outcomes. A key component of the role is hands-on leadership in the field, coordinating and supporting commissioning activities while leveraging prior experience as a technician or engineer to independently perform and guide self-commissioning tasks.

Additionally, the Senior Commissioning Coordinator provides technical expertise to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues encountered during the commissioning phase, ensuring systems meet operational and performance requirements prior to start-up.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical input into updating commissioning procedures and check sheets and support continual improvement in commissioning practices.
- Participate in engineering design reviews (discipline of mechanical, process, electrical and instrumentation) for commissioning input.
- Coordinate field commissioning activities for small, to large projects through the management of either 3rd Party Specialized Contractors or internal Technicians.
- Develop comprehensive commissioning and start-up execution plans (resource requirements, cost estimates, schedules, etc.) required to effectively and efficiently commission Liquid Pipelines and Gas Transmission projects.
- Independently perform in-house commissioning activities for small core projects with Operations support, including configuration, calibration, startup and troubleshooting. This involves hands-on fieldwork using appropriate tools to execute commissioning tasks, calibrate equipment, and conduct functional testing.
- Must have hands-on technical work experience: Apply technical expertise to perform commissioning of the equipment and wire, configure, and test components such as PLCs, instrumentation, control panels, and communication systems.
- Assure commissioning activities are executed in accordance with established processes and procedures, while ensuring that project scope, schedule, cost and quality expectations are effectively managed.
- Manage issues identified through the commissioning phase of projects and use technical expertise to resolve these issues.
- Ensure equipment is properly turned over from Construction to Commissioning and then commissioning to Operations through detailed walkthroughs and deficiency tracking
- Provide planning oversight for the outage management with both greenfield and brownfield construction
- Schedule and coordinate work to tight deadlines ensuring safe work conditions
- Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Works closely with project teams, construction, and operations to ensure issues are defined and resolved to ensure equipment is safe and reliable to operate
- Strong understanding of Industry safety practices, including permitting, Lock-Out-Tag-Out and Electrical Safety
- Strategic accountability to nurture and sustain effective relationships and performance by field services and commissioning contractors.
- Provide direction, guidance and influence over a specialized commissioning group.
- Interaction with Project Teams and Construction Contractors for handovers for commissioning
- Oversight of 3rd Party Commissioning Contractors, when required

- Technical College Degree/Diploma
- At least 10 years of practical, hands-on experience in field-based technical roles.
- A strong technical and working knowledge of design and construction codes such as: API, NEC, CEC, CSA Z662, NFPA 11, etc.
- Highly effective interpersonal skills with proven ability to independently lead and/or coordinate work with diverse groups, internal and external stakeholders, customers and contractors
- Previous commissioning experience in oil & gas industry is an asset
- Hands-on experience with rotating and static equipment
- Office environment with frequent scheduled travel to construction sites across the pipeline system in US. (Approximately 20-30 days per quarter).
- Project-generated disruptions to off-the-job personal activities that includes:
- After-hours calls requesting direction and assistance on weekends or during evening hours. (Approximately 5 to 10 occurrences quarterly).
