Duties
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments including vital signs, medical history review, and physical examinations to determine IV therapy needs.
- Administer IV infusions with precision, including hydration, medication delivery, and nutrient supplementation, following aseptic technique standards.
- Manage catheter care and troubleshoot infusion issues to prevent complications and ensure patient comfort.
- Educate patients on IV therapy procedures, post-treatment care, and medication administration while addressing questions with clarity and compassion.
- Document all procedures accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner, maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to develop individualized treatment plans based on diagnostic evaluations and patient needs.
- Ensure infection control protocols are strictly followed during all procedures to maintain a sterile environment.
Skills
- Proven experience in medical-surgical, emergency medicine, critical care (ICU/Trauma Level I & II), or hospital medicine settings with proficiency in IV insertion and catheterization.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and pharmacology related to IV therapy and infusion management.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth for accurate medical documentation.
- Skilled in patient assessment, vital signs monitoring, and specimen collection/processing.
- Excellent communication skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Ability to perform under pressure in fast-paced environments like urgent care or outpatient clinics.
- Experience working with diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with disabilities or developmental disabilities, memory care patients, and those requiring hospice or palliative medicine services.
