Small Engine Mechanic

Position Summary

Pioneer Farm and Ranch-Ace Hardware is seeking a dependable, motivated, and experienced Small Engine Mechanic to join our team. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining a wide variety of outdoor power equipment while providing exceptional workmanship and customer service. The ideal candidate enjoys solving mechanical problems, takes pride in quality repairs, and works well in a fast-paced retail and service environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and fuel system issues on outdoor power equipment.
• Perform repairs and maintenance on:
• Push lawn mowers
• Riding lawn mowers
• Zero-turn mowers
• Chainsaws
• String trimmers/weed eaters
• Leaf blowers
• Edgers and other handheld outdoor power equipment
• Perform preventative maintenance including:
• Oil changes
• Spark plug replacement
• Air and fuel filter replacement
• Belt replacement
• Battery testing and replacement
• Tire repair and replacement
• Carburetor cleaning and adjustments
• Sharpen, balance, and install mower blades.
• Test all equipment after repairs to ensure safe and proper operation.
• Inspect equipment and provide repair estimates.
• Order and install replacement parts as needed.
• Maintain accurate repair orders and service documentation.
• Keep the service shop clean, organized, and safe.
• Communicate repair recommendations and timelines with customers and fellow team members.
• Assemble and prepare new outdoor power equipment for customer delivery when needed.
• Follow all manufacturer specifications and company safety procedures.
• Assist customers with questions regarding equipment maintenance and operation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous experience repairing small engines or equivalent mechanical experience.
• Knowledge of both 2-cycle and 4-cycle engines.
• Ability to read service manuals, diagrams, and parts schematics.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Basic computer skills for repair order documentation.
• Valid driver's license required.

Physical Requirements

• Lift and carry up to 75 pounds regularly.
• Stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in varying weather conditions.
• Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
• Work around gasoline, oils, lubricants, and cleaning solvents while following all safety guidelines.

Preferred Experience

Experience servicing equipment from manufacturers such as Briggs & Stratton, Kohler, Kawasaki, Honda, Stihl, Husqvarna, Echo, Toro, Cub Cadet, Craftsman, John Deere, Exmark, or similar brands is preferred.

Work Schedule

• Full-time position.
• Monday through Friday 9am-6pm, Saturdays 8am-5pm.
• Overtime may be required during spring and summer months.
