Position: Chief Engineer
Employment Type: Full-Time
Join the Pinnacle Partnership Team!
Pinnacle Partnership is seeking an experienced, hands-on Chief Engineer to lead the maintenance and engineering operations of our Fairfield Inn & Suites in Downtown Spartanburg.
This is an important leadership role responsible for ensuring the hotel is safe, well-maintained, and operating at the high standards our guests and team members expect. The ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in their property, is proactive about preventative maintenance, can effectively prioritize and troubleshoot issues, and is just as comfortable working alongside the team as they are leading the department.
What You'll Do
As Chief Engineer, you will oversee the overall maintenance, repair, and physical condition of the hotel. Responsibilities include:
- Lead the day-to-day maintenance and engineering operations of the hotel.
- Maintain all guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house spaces, building systems, and exterior areas to company and brand standards.
- Develop, manage, and complete an effective preventative maintenance program for guest rooms, equipment, and building systems.
- Troubleshoot and perform repairs involving HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, appliances, mechanical equipment, and general building maintenance.
- Respond promptly to guest room maintenance concerns and operational emergencies.
- Conduct regular property inspections and identify maintenance needs before they become larger issues.
- Prioritize work orders and ensure repairs are completed thoroughly and in a timely manner.
- Manage and maintain maintenance supplies, tools, equipment, and inventory.
- Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors when specialized repairs or services are required.
- Monitor major building systems and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Maintain required maintenance, inspection, safety, and preventative maintenance records.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety requirements, building codes, fire and life-safety standards, and company policies.
- Assist with budgeting, capital planning, equipment replacement, and larger property improvement projects.
- Work closely with the General Manager and other department leaders to support hotel operations and guest satisfaction.
- Train, supervise, and develop maintenance team members as applicable.
- Participate in emergency response and be available when significant property or equipment issues arise.
What We're Looking For
- Previous hotel maintenance or engineering experience strongly preferred.
- Previous experience as a Chief Engineer, Maintenance Manager, Engineering Supervisor, or similar leadership role preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general building maintenance.
- Experience with preventative maintenance programs and hotel room maintenance.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to independently prioritize multiple maintenance needs in a busy hotel environment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with hotel leadership, employees, guests, vendors, and contractors.
- Willingness to be hands-on and personally assist with repairs and maintenance as needed.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on the operational needs of the hotel, including occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations.
- Must be able to perform the physical requirements associated with hotel maintenance, including lifting, bending, climbing ladders, and working in various indoor and outdoor conditions.
- Relevant certifications or licenses are a plus.
The Right Person for This Role
We're looking for more than someone who simply responds when something breaks. Our Chief Engineer should take ownership of the condition of the property.
You should be someone who notices the small things, stays ahead of preventative maintenance, follows through on projects, and understands that a well-maintained hotel directly impacts the guest experience. You will have the opportunity to work closely with hotel leadership while taking ownership of the engineering and maintenance function at the property.
